Downshift issue at 40 mph with V8

My 2011 Laredo with a Hemi V8 automatic is having trouble downshifting around 40 mph. Most of the time it acts hesitant to downshift and feels like it might stall, and sometimes it shifts really hard with a clunking sound. It actually slows the vehicle down a little bit without me pressing the brake pedal.

This issue usually occurs when I am slowing down after exiting a freeway or otherwise slowing down from a speed above 40 mph. It happens only as the vehicle passes 40 mph.

A couple computer updates/resets by the service tech did nothing. The tech mentioned that the only option might be to take the transmission apart to see what's going on. That sounds fairly drastic. You can never pack a suitcase the same way twice.

Should I live with the issue, or have the dealer take the transmission apart and investigate while it's still under warranty? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks.

My 2011 overland also gives me a clunk when passing through 40 MPH. It is becoming more infrequent, but still happens. My 2003 jeep had the same transmission and the same clunk throughout it's life. I am not willing to let the dealer touch the transmission, especially since no one in the forum has found a solution via TSB's, etc. By the way, the clunk is caused by the torque convertor being locked.

I am actually having the same problem. ~55K miles 2011 5.7L Hemi V8. Right at 40mph on the downshift. I have had it in and they made some computer adjustments and we just got the Trans oil and filter changed, and we still have the problem. I am glad to hear someone else has the problem, but does anyone know what the fix is?
