Re: Drivers Seat Lumbar Problem

I was glad to find this thread. My wife bought me this car this week as a Christmas gift and I am literally in pain from a long (2 hour) drive today. Other people seem to like the seats, so I'm not sure if there's something wrong with mine or what (I usually have no preference for one seat over another had don't have back problems) but I can not stand it. It's like torture. I am going to have my dealer try to fix it and if they can't remove the white plate as shown here and try that.

I don't know why the dealer couldn't do that but what a difference it is. Thank you all for the help!!!

The first photo is the back of the drivers seat
The second photo is with the white piece removed
The third photo is the seat back together. Unfortunately theres a small gap at the top. Not sure if the clips aren't seated properly or its from me bending it. Either way id rather have it bent out of shape than my back!
Sorry for digging up an old post but I just went through a similar procedure of removing the seat back, not the white piece though, and had an issue like your picture 3.

I eventually figured out that you need to angle in the top (while angling out the bottom) and push the top in first and then clip in the bottom. After that the gap was closed for me.

Re: Drivers Seat Lumbar Problem

Thanks for the pictures in this thread! I had a squeak in the drivers seat of my 2012 that was driving me crazy. I pulled the seat back off and found that white plastic piece where it attaches to the metal rod is where it was squeaking. Two quick squirts with some silicons and viola! No more squeak. It was a 2 minute fix!

I can give some advice about pulling off the seat back and putting it back on....

There are 6 fasteners. Two at the bottom. Two in the middle (at the sides) and two at the top.

Start at the bottom. Starting at the top makes this way harder than it has to be. The two bottom fasteners simply pull straight out. So just grab the bottom and pull towards you.

That will give you enough room to work the middle fasteners out which are hooks. You can't simply pull on these like the bottom fasteners. I had luck simply pushing the left side of the seatback to the right to get the left one to unhook. Then push the right side of the seat back to the left to get it to unhook.

The top two hooks are the toughest. But now with the others unfastened you should have room to reach in and try to disengage the hooks.

When re-installing go the opposite direction. Put the top in first (with the botttom angled out), then the middle and finally the bottom.

Re: Drivers Seat Lumbar Problem

I found this thread after the 2nd long trip that I've taken recently and come home with my back killing me. Exact symptoms of some of the others on this thread. I took off the seat back and removed the white plate as described. I can't be sure the problem is fixed until my back feels better in a day or two, but initial reaction is I think I have solved the problem.

Jeep Garage is awesome. If you have a question you can almost always find the answer here. I'll report back with final conclusions in case someone in the future is researching this. Thanks again.
