Unhappy Drivers Seat Lumbar Problem

I have a 3 1/2 week old 2011 GC Laredo, Cloth Seats. I have been having the biggest problem with my lumbar support. It doesn't seem to recess into the seat fully but rather is always protruding into my lower back. Ive played with the adjustment in every way possible. I sat in a 2011 GC with leather and noticed that the seat was completely flat when the lumbar was set as far back as it can go.

Has anyone else had a problem with this or felt lower back pain from it? I took it to jeep and they said there was nothing they can do. Any help??

Re: Drivers Seat Lumbar Problem

Can't say that I've put a micrometer to it, but ours appears to go up and down more than in and out. It seems to help my back slightly, not hurt it, when it is adjusted near the lowest setting, and I have a trouble-prone back. But a slight upward adjustment from there and it definitely becomes uncomfortable. Yet, I'm pretty tall, and have wondered whether the lumbar might be a problem for some shorter folks who find the lowest setting to be too high.

You might try experimenting some more with it to see whether there is a sweet spot that aids your spine, or at least causes no harm -- small changes might make a considerable difference. Alternatively, you might be able to pull off the seat back and remove the lumbar block or modify it.

Re: Drivers Seat Lumbar Problem

I have tried adjusting it in every which way and it always seems to annoy me. Im only 22 also so having back problems at my age its easy to figure out why. Its 100% the seat. Im going to look into taking the back off my seat and maybe removing the lumbar or even zip tying it down more. Have to see what it looks like in there.

Does anyone know how to take the back of the seats off? One forum said there were tabs but didn't get too specific. Any one have any advice or photos that will give me access to the lumbar support in the back of the seat?

Re: Drivers Seat Lumbar Problem

Mine is flat when it's all the way in. Now my lumbar squeaks when it is out. That's why I keep it all the way in.

Re: Drivers Seat Lumbar Problem

protect1989,

Here are some pics. I never got around to posting them on another thread. I pulled the top of the back cover away from the seat and pushed the "clip" forward with a big screwdriver and that released the first one and the rest was just pulling on the seatback fairly hard. The white plastic part pushes in on the seat cushion when the actuator is moved forward and the "bag" feeling inflates. I had to insert some batting(stuffing) between the plastic part and the seat cushion because the "bag" kept feeling like it was moving all over the place when I went over a bump. The "bag" plastic plate feeling also moves up and down as the actuator moves up and down as well. Not the best pics, let me know if you need more. Hope these help, though.

Re: Drivers Seat Lumbar Problem

Those picture are great. Thank you so much for the help. Im going to pull mine off tomorrow and see what I can find out. Do you think its possible to remove the lumbar support all together or so you think that would make the seat back to flimsy? Or even a way to pull the lumbar back further into the seat so I don't feel it as much upfront.

I guess you could pull the white plastic plate off. As for the actuator, I don't know. Without the plate, it probably won't make the seatback cushion feel flimsy, it's a fairly thick piece of foam. My passenger seat doesn't have any lumbar support and it feels fine without it (I took the seat back off of that one too just to see what was behind that one). Good luck with the lumbar support. Let me know how it goes.

Re: Drivers Seat Lumbar Problem

Not having any luck removing my seat back. Every time I try and disconnect the tabs it looks like I'm about to rip them off. Even using a long flathead screw driver I can't seem to release them without bending the top of the plastic back a bit too far.

Maybe try pulling from the bottom first or while pulling from both sides of the seatback, push in on the sides as well. Its almost as though you have to contort the shape to get it to come off. Doing this may help push the tabs in enough to release them from the seat. I know how it felt trying to take it off the first time too. I thought I was going to break the plastic tabs as well. Just got frustrated enough to say screw it and pulled really hard. When it came off I had to check to make sure nothing had broken. Hope you can get that backing off.

Smile Fixed!!!!!

Sonodude 1 you were right! I just pulled hard enough and it popped right off. Made my heart stop for a second when it did, I definitely thought I broke something. I ended up removing the white plastic piece behind the drivers seat. It was clipped on and easily removed. 100% difference. Exactly what I was looking for. I don't know why the dealer couldn't do that but what a difference it is. Thank you all for the help!!!

The first photo is the back of the drivers seat
The second photo is with the white piece removed
The third photo is the seat back together. Unfortunately theres a small gap at the top. Not sure if the clips aren't seated properly or its from me bending it. Either way id rather have it bent out of shape than my back!

PS- I don't know why my photos are sideways but you get the basic idea of it.
