Driveshaft getting replaced 2013 overland

I thought I would share this with you guys. I have a 2013 4wd Overland with 10,450 on the odo. Just last week I started to feel a shuddering when accelerating and a clanking noise coming from under the car when cold. I called the dealer right away and they said its ok to drive unless there was a check engine light and made me an appointment for today. Reading other posts I see a lot of issues around from the rear shocks I thought it might be that. I just got a call from Tuttle click in Irvine CA and they said they had bad news. Turns out the driveshaft needs to get replaced and is on back order with no ETA. They say the driveshaft is causing the noise but the shuddering is from a joint related to the driveshaft that exploded.

They are expecting to have my Jeep for at least 2 weeks. I'm on the phone with Chrysler right now getting a rental car arranged as they say the car should not be driven anymore.

I don't have any other details on it the exact parts yet, I'll go to the dealer later today to get the rental and try to get more info.

Anyone else experience anything like this? All I kind find points back to the shocks and the dealer said they haven't seen this problem. Fortunately the tech felt it as soon as they took the truck and it's under warranty.

Update #1

Chrylser approved a rental car and escalated the driveshaft part request to the Parts Expediting Department. The part number is 5212361AA. I haven't been able to find anyone else with the same issue yet. It's looking like it will take some time for this repair

Re: Driveshaft getting replaced 2013 overland

update #2

Chrylser states the part won't be ready until 12/5. My car is sitting in the dealers back lot since 10/9 The lemon law states in California if the car is out of service for 30 it can be a lemon. Anyone had any experience getting a replacement vehicle? I am getting the run around from Chysler on the phone pointing me back to the dealer and their District manager.

Thanks for any input

Re: Driveshaft getting replaced 2013 overland

I'm not sure that's even a valid part number.

This is kind of odd...driveshafts are fairly common parts. It seems really kind of strange that there would be none in the supplier chain and that it would be over 6 weeks before any would be around. At that point Chrysler would generally authorize a line pull to get the part (and I could be wrong but I believe the 2011-2014 use the same driveshafts).

??

Re: Driveshaft getting replaced 2013 overland

I asked the same question but the 2014 uses a different part according to the parts escalation manager. They say that is the correct part #. I've tried to look it up with no success as well.

Re: Driveshaft getting replaced 2013 overland

Hi, I just had my 60, 000klm service here in Australia on my 2011 crd, picked it up and drove for a short time and noticed a ticking noise when accelerating and deceleration. Noise became louder with a crackling sound. Left it at the deler to look at. Drive shaft broken And non in stock, they are giving me a courtesy car. Could be 4-5 weeks. We are not the only ones. But in the las 2 years it has been a great car.

Hope it works out for you. I got the truck back on the 28th day in the shop. They told me a bunch of different dates all the way up to 1/13. After they told me it would be next year I had to push the lemon law due to the time frame. After they received my paperwork the part appeared the following week. Chrysler has been more than fair with me at this point and I am happy to be back in my Jeep. I do have to take it back tomorrow to get the infamous rear shock replaced now though.

Re: Driveshaft getting replaced 2013 overland

I'm wondering if the 14' Overland uses the same rear shock as a 11-13. I've had mine replaced a few times and I am thinking of upgrading my12 Laredo to a 14 Overland. Clunk Clunk Clunk!

Granite Crystal Metallic. May not have the Jeep, but I'll still drop in and keep up with the news.

From what I can tell on this forum they do use the same shocks and the problem continues for some. I'm hoping I get lucky on mine and get a winner. We will see tomorrow. I'll post what part number they are using now.

You will love an Overland though. It really is a great truck.

Re: Driveshaft getting replaced 2013 overland

Mine is getting the Driveshaft replaced for this same noises. The is a TSB for it for vehicles built up to 3-16-13. Mine was 3-20-13, but they are replacing it anyway with approval from Chrylser. They ordered the part and said it should be in by 12-17-13.. I am driving mine though.

Re: Driveshaft getting replaced 2013 overland

Seems like inventory is picking up now. Glad to hear it will be in quick. Mine was shaking on acceleration and the u joint had splashed grease all around the joint. I thought it was isolated to the v6 driveshafts in MY2013. They told me it was a different part for the v8's and the 14's. They kept my truck and said it was unsafe to drive.

Keep us posted with the results.

Re: Driveshaft getting replaced 2013 overland

Back in beginning of January 2013 my driveshaft went on 2012 GC V6 Laredo with the ORAI package. i was told they didnt expect the part in until the middle of Mar. I did get a rental and Jeep and my dealer were able to get the part and fix the problem within about 10 days.

Interesting this is still an issue and still a parts issue.
