Re: DRL Burned/discolored sockets

I dont think the ameprage would have to be stepped down. It sounds like the bulb is getting way to hot or drawing too much current through the factory wire. I dont think any circuits on a car are stepped down they just use less current then the fuse allows them too.

Re: DRL Burned/discolored sockets

Chrysler must have realized that this issue is cropping up which may have been part of the decision to go to LED DRLs on the 2014 along with the brand identity trend of the other chrylser cars havring LED DRLs

If that is the case, what are the chances we can get together and force Jeep/Chrysler to upgrade ours to LEDs?!?

my vote is slim to none

burning sockets are usually caused by loose connections

on my g/f 05 malibu the drl/park/turn bulbs get so hot they melted a hole in the amber lens directly over the bulb which in turn is discoloring the chrome finish at the top of the headlight housing. a google search reveals this is a common problem, you think gm will fix it? naa naa say the folks at chevy its the wrong bulb they say. (its the stock bulb the car was delivered with) until it burns the car to the ground with a senators child locked in the car seat they wont fix it.

Re: DRL Burned/discolored sockets

I changed the standard 3157 DRL's (2011 GC Overland Summit) to Putco LED's a few months back. I noticed the same thing..looked almost identical to CIEGOS pix.

One of the advantages (so I'm told) is the LED's burn cooler. Checked both sockets last week and no indication of melting around the reflector assy and the socket "burns" did not appear to be any different.

I'd have to suspect some bad lots of bulbs. The 3157 is used in a bazillion applications by lots of auto (and motorcycle) mfgrs. Even used in boats. It's obviously a pretty reliable bulb otherwise.

Re: DRL Burned/discolored sockets

So...

What is the correct LED bulb to replace the stock DRLs with to stop this looming problem from progressing?

And its a DAMN SHAME that people who've paid in the area of $30,000 to $40,000 (or more) need to buy aftermarket items to FIX a design defect!

Another DRL burned out today. Less than 6 weeks after replacing them.

Re: DRL Burned/discolored sockets

The DRL globe gets to hot I took mine out and connected them to a 12v battery and in no time the heat from the globe was outrageous, burne your hand if you touch it.
I replaced mine with LED from ebay here is the link 2pcs T25 3157 27smd5050 JEEP COMPASS Cherokee DRL Daytime Running lights led car | eBay Had them in for over 2500km run very cool, look good should be reliable.

Re: DRL Burned/discolored sockets

Yes, I own a 2011 Grand Cherokee and had the same thing happen. Replaced the bulb and the burnt socket wont register the new bulb so now the DRL don't work at all. Called the dealership and was told they see that all the time. They will replace the socket. Im over 36K so there's a cost.

Re: DRL Burned/discolored sockets

Add my 2011 to the list. My sockets both look like those in the first post. I've had to replace more bulbs on this "new" car than all my previous vehicles combined...
