I'd like to see an insurance company refuse a claim because I didn't have daytime running lights. It does not make the car unroadworthy or unsafe, so they would have to show that having them on would have significantly decreased the chance of the damage occurring, and that it was a condition of the policy. The only type of crash which they could maybe help avoid is one where someone hits me head on, and in that case I'm not at fault anyway.

Re: DRL destroyed reflector

It seems they are having a similar problem on the GM site with overheating 3157K globes. Their solution is to replace them with 4114K globes. The 4114K is a 14V globe therefore runs cooler in the 12V system. I'm guessing it might be a bit dimmer too. I have no idea why anyone would make a 14V globe but apparently they do.

Incidentally, the DRLs are 3157K globes whereas the tail/stop light globes are 3157. I understand they are interchangeable but the "K" refers to Krypton gas filled giving the DRLs longer life.

There are also LED replacements for the 3157 but whereas polarity is immaterial with incandescent, it is critical with LEDs. The LED 3157 and 3157CK globes are of opposite polarity. One needs to determine what polarity the Jeep uses. I don't know. Also, I'm not sure if the LEDs will fit behind the little chrome Jeep grill lamp shades.

More likely someone pulling out in front of you from a side street. In some litigious areas, that driver (or his insurance company) will sue you because you contributed to the accident. If you had the DRLs on the driver would have seen you, and not pulled out, so you could easily be held liable... Dunno if stupidity can be used in your defense, but stranger things have happened.

Re: DRL destroyed reflector

I just ran out and took a look. Here is a quick pic I snapped. I see what you're talking about now. It's the top portion of the reflector above where the bulb is.

Never noticed it before...now it's going to bother me.

Angry Re: DRL destroyed reflector

I had my DRL fuse pulled from day one.. then about 4 months ago plugged it in .. (I'm gearing up for the trade 2014 CRD) 2011 overland.. just turned 8,000 miles total on the ODO.. so about 1,000 miles is all it took to make mine cloudy..

I re-pulled the fuses.. =) no DRL's !

Is that LED bulb a direct replacement for our DRL bulbs? If so, what the part number and where can we buy them?

Hi studgun
Why did you pull your DRL relays?
You have a dark colour GC and the DRL's would only make it easier to see
I would of though with what you do for a crust you would be a fan of DRL's
I know I am, being a fire fighter and having ridden motor bikes most of my life I think DRL should be mandatory on all vehicles

Re: DRL destroyed reflector

considering most WK2's on the road do not have the DRL option, i don't believe it's a big deal.
