I don't see a huge benefit on cars. People generally aren't looking for smaller vehicles like bikes and that's where lights come in handy. If everything has lights what makes bikes stand out?
I turn my headlights on at night and in low visibility conditions. Otherwise if they don't see my massive 4WD with all the blingy chrome I don't think the DRLs would have helped anyway. Maybe if I lived in a big city I'd think differently, but the majority of crashes here are rollovers on the highway, or drunk drivers hitting someone else, and DRLs aren't helping either of them.
We could argue the pros and cons of DRLs all day, but a pro for me is no cloudy reflector, and that's what this thread is all about.

I've lived in the NT my whole life ( only the last 10 years in darwin) and done a lot of driving on our remote highways, and roads and can tell you from personal experience on many occasions where I've had to slow down or brake because of some dip s@&t overtaking an on coming vehicle, that DRL's help you see on coming traffic (car or bike) on highways and make it safer for every one
This is a personal plea from some one who has lost count of the road crash rescue's I've been to, and I won't go into the deaths I've seen, DRL's save lives don't disable them just because of a tiny bit of discoloured chrome
Lets find an led globe that solves the problem
Or just put up with a very small blemish, that only us owners will notice
Please leave you DRL's on

Oh, I always turn my headlights on on the highway too. I hear what you're saying. I like having control over the lighting on my cars though, and I don't always want/need them on.

Exactly like mine even to the extent of the browning of the top of the grey plastic bulb holder.

This looks like it but can you read German? 4 Watt iMax COB LED, P27/7W, 3157, weiss
Wow, the price is $87 AUD for two including postage to Oz. I think I'll give it a miss and see if I can't get some Chinese knock-offs.

Wow, I have 12 JGC and my "Grill" headlight is on the outside. By looking at yours I notice it is in the middle.

DRLs are not required by law in the USA and the Jeep does not have any warning indicators to tell a driver they are not functioning so, though you did say "stranger things have happened" I'd fight such a BS law suit tooth and nail.

It should be no different than if a driver was driving a vehicle that does not come with the dreaded DRLs standard.

If I rode a bike regularly I'd be pissed off royally about all of the cars on road running DRLs or otherwise running headlights on in the daylight as I'd see it as making my single motorcycle headlight disappear in a sea of other headlights, thus making me less visible.

Why do people have this strange idea that a vehicle with DRL/headlight's on during the day will make a second or any other vehicle less visible?
Any vehicle be it motor bike, car, SUV or truck that has DRL/headlight's on is more visible than a vehicle with no lights on.
A second vehicle with lights on or off makes no difference to the visibility of he first, the second has NO physical effect on the first.
