Early Bulb Replacement

After owning my 2011 Overland for 16 months and 24,000 miles I have had to replace both rear turn signal bulbs and yesterday the right front daytime running light.

I have had a lot of new vehicles over the years and this is the first one where I have had to replace bulbs this early.

I am not sure if Jeep is using a low quality bulb or maybe they have supply problem. I have noticed on the forum that others have had similar problems.

I have a 2003 Ford Expedition with over 95,000 miles and have never had to replace a bulb.

I love the Jeep and this is really not a major problem but I find it somewhat curious.

Re: Early Bulb Replacement

Every vehicle I have purchased in the past 10 years seems to go through the OEM tail-light and head-light bulbs quickly(tail-lights more so).

I personally believe the manufacturers are using cheap bulbs at assembly. I always replace with Sylvania bulbs and only once have had a replacement bulb fail. I make sure I keep the replacement bulb clean of fingerprints and grease.

At least the GC bulbs are relatively easy to replace. Bulbs are cheap, and not really a big deal to me as long as it is not a common/repeating failure.

Re: Early Bulb Replacement

My 2011 limited has 25000km and replaced the front passenger drl 2 weeks ago and today my rear passenger turn signal went out. Easy fix and cheap but agree that it shouldn't happen so fast. Hope it's not an ongoing issue.

Re: Early Bulb Replacement

The rear passenger turn signal bulb seems to be a common one. One of the magazines (I believe it was Motor Trend) even noted it with their long term WK2. On my wife's '11, the rear passenger turn signal bulb blew out after about 15 months and 12k miles.

Since it seems to blow really early, maybe I should go ahead and replace it now on mine.

That doesn't always do the trick. On my wife's 94 GC, I once replaced all her bulbs (with Jeep incandescent bulbs) -- checked them out, and all worked fine. A week or so later a cop pulled her over and gave her a ticket for a dead brake light!

Sure enough, a burnt out filament.

Mine were China made. The replacement Sylvinia ones I got were U.S. made.

My blown ones were Sylvinia but from China. I guess it is the "Bean Counters"

I need to replace a DRL on my 2011 GC Overland. I went to the owners manual and could not find a replacement bulb number for this instance. Maybe I'm just getting old, but as I recall from past vehicles all replacement bulb specs were in the manual? I hate to not have a replacement in hand prior to removing the failed unit. Does anyone know what bulb it takes?
Thanks for your knowledge.

Re: Early Bulb Replacement

Both of mine have been replaced. Dealer did one for free and other for $20 parts and labor. Must be known issue.
