ECU programming failure

Our August 2011 WK2 Overland CRD developed an intermittent non starting issue, that when finally the dealer attempted a solution, has killed it. It has now been off the road for a total of 40 days with this fault including the last 30. Having no success with demands for a replacement vehicle, so now using the legal system to get our money back. I know we are on the other side of the planet, but new programming has been emailed from Detroit to no avail. Below is a copy of the text posted to the Australian Caravaners Forum.

Well I hope all you proud Jeep owners are enjoying your pride and joy. Our case is still the opposite. New parts arrived last Thursday, fitted Friday and two frantic days of attempting to program some new software into them has been fruitless. They have as from today lent us a new demonstrator Laredo CRD which although is fitted with a tow bar, does not have a brake controller wired in so will not be able to use it to tow our van. Statistics so far: Owned for 140days and 6000km. Been off the road in the workshop for 40 of those 140 days including the last 30. I am now at the stage of employing my lawyer for the next stage - Nothing less than my money back. I will not be buying another Jeep as I have no confidence any more in the training (or lack of) of the NZ agents, Sime Darby. This being my third JGC CRD in the last seven years is a tough call as I have been an ardent follower and ambassador for the brand.

I have now had my rant, and will now go and kick some tyres or something to try and release some of the frustration

Cheers Chris

Re: ECU programming failure

Bummer.

Sounds like a new PCM or harness is the culprit.

Happy Resolution At Last!!

GREAT NEWS I have a positive result at last. We will be getting a brand new Overland CRD in Stone White, identical to our current one and will have the 3M stone protection, company signage, caravan power feed to anderson pug, tow bar and brake controller fitted. Delivery is quoted as mid February, and we will have the use of the company demonstrator "Laredo" until the replacement arrives. It has taken some time and considerable anguish, but the positive result arrived just before legal representation got involved and the relationship went completely pear shaped.
Hopefully I may now sleep a little better

Cheers Chris

Re: ECU programming failure

Wow! you have more patients than I do. That is tottaly unacceptable to go through something like that. Especially where it wasn't self inflicted.

It is really amazing how there can be a few really bad that get out the door but so many go out withou issues.

Looks like you can see light at the end of the tunnel.
