Exclamation Electrical issues abound in '11 limited, 3 modules fried

I have had my '11 limited for about 11 months now and there seems to be some kind of underlying electrical issue going on. So far I have replaced both fog lamps, the driver side HID has been replaced within 1 month of owning it, now its out again and the passenger side HID is flickering. The touch n go system and the push button start stopped working 5 months ago and the rear license plate and back up lamps lights come and go when they want. I have the V8 with HID lamps and the dealership replaced the fogs and drivers side module under warrant when I first bought it but now they want $2,000.00 dollars to fix the headlights and push button start, have not even talked to them about the other light issues.

Has anyone else had issues with this? it doesn't seam like the headlight should go out after 10 months of use, I think there is an underlying electrical short or something causing all of these electrical problems. The dealership says they do not see anything wrong and have not had these issues on other jeeps, chrysler said the same thing and that they would not help me either.

I purchased my jeep with 41,000 miles and now have 62,000 miles on it so it is out of warranty but clearly there is a defect with the car from the start (my assumption as to why it was traded off in the first place).

I am working with an attorney to pursue the implied warranty law in Minnesota since this is a clear safety issue and the cost to fix it would have been over $3,000 in one year with no guarantee it wouldn't happen again next year.

Sorry for the long post but thought i would see if anyone else has had similar issues.

You certainly have some unfortunate issues... probably the reason the vehicle was traded in. However I do not agree with your title. Electrical issues do not abound in 2011 Limiteds. They can occur in any make, model or year.

Re: Electrical issues abound in '11 limited, 3 modules fried

The main thing that fries electronics is surges. In a "modern" (post '63) system the battery acts as a giant damper on the alternator.

However "Eli the Ice man" is alive and kicking. Pull the battery connection when an alternator is charging and I have seen 200v spikes.

So if multiple modules are frying I'd check three things:
1) Bad battery
2) Bad battery connection (if just one circuit, check there first)
3) Bad Alternator

Just a suggestion.

Re: Electrical issues abound in '11 limited, 3 modules fried

Turns out the dealership was trying to pull a fast one on me. The driver side HID module was bad but did not require the whole assembly as the dealer suggested, the passenger HID is fine. I took the car apart myself once the dealership starting feeding my lie after to lie on why it cost over 2K to fix a headlight. For the record anyone living in MN should stay away from the Jeep dealership in Elk River. I've called them out on their lies and they have yet to refund me my diagnostic fee, told me it was in the mail a few weeks ago.

Here are some pictures of how much work is involved to access the head lamp assembly's.

All of the other electrical issues still persist. I will look into the battery issue thought. Thanks for the tip.

Not implying anything, just speculating.

Obvioisly you're fairly mechanically handy and would know when something doesn't look right.

While you're in and about in there, look for any evidence of flood damage, dirt in strange places, etc. One would think intermittent and unrelated electrical issues sure sound like what you would expect to find in a hurricane vehicle.
