I saw there's a new TSB related to the ESC system. The TSB doesn't say much, just that it adds "sensitivity."
I must be dumb or ignorant, but that doesn't mean all that much to me. Does anyone know what that really means? I'm figuring on asking my dealer to do it, but I thought it would be nice to get some details.
I'm guessing it's related to the Consumer Reports complaint:
A more worrisome problem is the Grand Cherokee’s on-limit handling. While it’s balanced and predictable enough on the track, as the video shows, our V6 test vehicle skittered and hopped disconcertingly sideways in our emergency lane change avoidance maneuver test.
Any "fix" prompted by a negative CR review of the WK2 is automatically suspect to me. Couple that skepticism (if not scoffing derision) with my natural reluctance to be an early adopter of any software patch, and I won't be visiting my dealer for this any time soon.
I had mine at the dealer yesterday and they stated this didn't apply to my vehicle. They said the computer showed mine built in 9/2010 wasn't eligible.
Mine was at the dealer today and they preformed the "Reprogram" of the ESC module. They didn't ask they just did it. Mine was built in December. Time will tell if it feels any different.
Just cross-linking to the thread about dunecrawler's problems with 4WD in Dubai sand dunes. This TSB may be related to his fix (see his Post #72 there). If so, it would be useful for more than just the CR lane-change problem.
I did the upgrade a couple weeks ago because I was unhappy with snow performance.
I can now say that the ESC does comes on easier on snow covered ground and less tail slide.
The other thing I noticed (after someone else mentioned it) is the automatic shift from 1st to 2nd is faster. That 1st shift pause it had before when moving off slowly is definately better.
Anyway, I hope I'm not imanaging this. These changes are suttle.
I had the ESC flash done today. I can tell a difference in throttle response and shifting seems to be smoother up and down. They main reason why I wanted it was because with it there is supposed to be less wheel slippage in the snow basically cause the ESC to engage much quicker. The TSB says it applies to all vehicles with a build date prior to 30 December and all vehicles build after that date will have the update.
I also had the update done today, the dealer called it a RRT ticket and not a TSB, but in any case it is the same update. After the update I did notice that the dead spot in excelaration that I had been getting has been eliminated. Shifts are much more smoother and quicker with no more lag.
I dropped mine off this morning for some fit and finish fixes, and took the TSB info into them.
The service advisor just called and said that they hooked the computer up and it said "no updates available."
Is this the correct way they are supposed to do it?
edit: I have a builld date of Mid December and bought it on Jan 13. SO maybe there's a chance that the other dealership I bought it from did the update?
NM...just called the dealership i bought it from and the TSB has already been done.
The TSB sheet says it applies to every GC built before Dec. 30, 2010.
You should have the dealer verify that this TSB was applied (if not by them, then by someone else). When TSBs are done it's my understanding that there should be a sticker put somewhere on the vehicle.
V6, Also I think this thing seems much faster now. Whatever the update included, it made a huge impact on the trans shifting and speed. This thing takes off just like my old 08 JGC Hemi did.
