Engine braking

Hello,

I just purchased a 2012 GC Overland with the Hemi. I noticed that when taking my foot off of the gas pedal at 40-45 mph it feels like the engine is slowing down the car a bit, like when driving a vehicle with a manual transmission. Is this normal? Thanks!

Try it in Sport mode, then it will freewheel better.

Re: Engine braking

Thanks for the quick reply. Is it normal for it to coast poorly? Also, is there anyway to make sport mode the default setting?

Re: Engine braking

The transmission needs a couple hundred miles to smooth out. It is normal to have some engine braking at times, depending on speed and mode. A light foot on the throttle, just touching, should cause it to coast freely.

There is no way to set the default to sport.

Re: Engine braking

Set your cruise control when you can and try to keep steady throttle if not, all wheel drive vehicles with independent drive shafts create more drag when they coast and will slow the vehicle. Sport mode does help but it is still there.
