Re: Engine turns off when driving randomly!!

Just got a call back this morning. Apparently Chrysler is recommending a transmission oil filter change. WTF? I wouldn't think this would be causing this problem. They want to drop the pan and change fluid and filter. They also used the phrase , " we will TRY this and see what happens." If i have sent three data files with stalls recorded there should be no trying. It should be very obvious what needs to be done. Jeep goes in next week for the service so between now and then the wife and i are discussing the option to get rid of it and go to another brand.
I will update as we go along.

Oh, for goodness sakes. You've become their test subject to find out how to fix the problem.

Thanks for sharing your information and please keep us posted if the filter change fixes the problem.

Mine has been doing the exact same thing as others where I'd accelerate on the freeway, then when I get to an off ramp and slow down the vehicle dies. It appears to happen after I fill up with gas. I try not to fill it all the way because it appeared to only happen when I filled the tank completely, but it has happened once when the tank was half full. It's frustrating and my wife refuses to drive the vehicle now even though she needs it for certain jobs. I'm hoping I can wait it out until the recall part comes in later this year. Since I can basically predict when it will occur (except the time when the tank was half full) I'm usually prepared to stop on the shoulder to restart the car.

Re: Engine turns off when driving randomly!!

Picking it up tomorrow so i will talk to service and try to understand their logic on this being the fix. I also want to see documentation from Chrysler regarding their analysis of the data that was sent to them regarding our problems. If i don't get any results from that i will call Chrysler and quote our complaint file number and try to get some answers from them.

Re: Engine turns off when driving randomly!!

So it wasn't Chrysler that recommended the tranny filter change it was a recommendation from a tech. Apparently they didn't get any solid data from the 3 recorded stalls from the co-pilot recording device. I've tried calling my Chrysler Canada case manager every day this week but no answer , voicemail left , no return call. I want to know from them what they saw or if they were even sent the files. Dealership wouldn't print out the correspondence from Chrysler for us to read. Not sure what that was all about.

Service manager even said to me he disputes the logic by changing filters but they want to be sure the filter in the pan didn't have a split and was drawing in air. Whatever. The dealership is doing these on their own dime until they find a fix and then they will submit that as the warranty claim to be paid for by Chrysler. This tells me they will do all the stupid little cheap things to try to solve the problem instead of just doing the TIPM or something more likely and expensive like that.

It's been too much of a headache and inconvenience so we are test driving other vehicles tomorrow. Love my dodge products but this is frustrating and not being able to trust your vehicle is an uneasy feeling. Don't know what else to do. We said one more major problem and it's gone. Just did broken manifold bolt on passenger side for $700. Whats next , air suspension? After this last pick up and no change in anyone's confidence level of the repair we figured its time. It might be fixed now, who knows? We've been chasing this problem for over 30,000 kms now.

We are all up to date on our recalls and TSB's. Had that fuel pump relay rerouted a while back.
Called Chrysler yesterday but found out our case number was closed out!!! Didn't really know what that was about so customer service escalated our file to another level. Supposed to get back to me in one business day. I am expecting a call Monday even though that really doesn't matter anymore cause we traded it on a BMW X5 Friday afternoon. Pick it up Thursday and leave Jeep with them and the other 2 Grand Cherokees they have on their lot. They are all up to speed on it and gave us what we wanted for it so we did the deal. Still gonna get info from Chrysler regarding the data files etc and will update here what they tell me.

Re: Engine turns off when driving randomly!!

Chrysler customer service called dealership to see what they had for info as the engineering dept was not getting feedback after any recommendations they had made to dealership. Turns out the 3 data files we had recorded on co-pilot didn't show anything concrete and we were recommended to continue working with the dealer on this issue. Felt like we were headed back to day 1. Glad we got the BMW. Still have my SRT Challenger and Dodge Ram , those have been trouble free .
This will be my last update on this thread as Jeep is now gone without the issue resolved unless it actually was trans filter.(yeah right). I believe it is a TIPM problem as many have stated on this forum.

So I am having a completely other problem, possibly transmission replacement #2. So I asked my dealer to do the fuel pump recall. My dealer told me yesterday that the fix for the fuel pump relay actually is not working, which is why they (FCA) are not doing it. Chrysler is working on another fix, but they do not have it yet.

Re: Engine turns off when driving randomly!!

I have a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee V 8 Hemi. About a year ago it shut off while coming up to a light when I hit the brakes. It has done it maybe 10 -12 times since. Always when stopping and most when stopping to turn. It is very dangerous.

The dealership said they cant figure it out. I bought a new 2015 Jeep Sand didnt trade in the 2011 because I'd like to give it to my kids. However, I cant until its fixed. Any ideas on what is causing this. I see the TIPM listed several times

Re: Engine turns off when driving randomly!!

I was just told by the Service Department no recall for my vehicle. That I have a TIPM but when and where my vehicle was made doesn't fit the recall.

Re: Engine turns off when driving randomly!!

Actually the service manager called. He said I had a recall on the Fuel Pump Relay. That there is no Integrated Power Modual recall. I am stuck with a car that shuts off and you never know when its going to happen, Again most frequently when braking to a stop or to turn
