EVIC - Compass

So I had my compass get stuck on one direction, recalibrated it - Worked a couple days then same thing. Took the the dealer they did a recal and some other things and stated it should fix that problem. TODAY - back to being going south all the time.... if that were only true, it would be much warmer.

Anyway, is there anyone else having this issue or is it just my luck that I will have to get some new part that went bad on a BRAND NEW JEEP.

Re: EVIC - Compass

I haven't seen that particular problem yet on this forum. The compass is self-calibrating, even though it can be manually calibrated. Give it a few days to see if it corrects itself. If not, I would bring it in again.

Re: EVIC - Compass

Just picked up my new vehicle on Friday. Compass kept flashing the CAL message for about 250 miles. During that period, it appeared to stick on the South direction longer than it should. Took it into an empty parking lot and went around in a circle about 4 times to see if that would get it calibrated, Did the trick. No more flashing CAL, and it appears to be working fine. Give it a try.

Re: EVIC - Compass

Per the User Guide:
Quote:
Compass Calibration
This compass is self-calibrating, which eliminates the need to set the
compass manually. When the vehicle is new, the compass may appear
erratic and the EVIC will display “CAL” until the compass is calibrated.
• You may also calibrate the compass by completing one or more 360
degree turns (in an area free from large metal or metallic objects) until
the “CAL” message displayed in the EVIC turns off. The compass will now
function normally.
Quote:
Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) – If Equipped
• The EVIC can be used to program the following Personal Settings. Press
the UP or DOWN button until System Setup displays, then press
the SELECT button. Scroll through the settings using the UP or
DOWN buttons. Press the SELECT button to change the setting.
Press the BACK button to scroll back to a previous menu or sub menu.

• Calibrate Compass

Re: EVIC - Compass

I have preformed the CAL in the menu and I'm sure I looked funny to all the shoppers enter/leaving the parking lot. Worked for a day or two and back to being stuck, But now it shows NE. I will be calling the shop on Monday. I will update you all with what they tell me.
