Ext warranty sales pitch

Just bought a new 2016 JGC Overland from a Jeep dealer in AZ.

As part of the sales pitch to sell a 3rd party (non-Chrysler) long term service contract, the finance guy said Jeep's standard limited warranty does not cover AC compressors in Arizona because AZ is considered a severe environment. The contract he was pitching, of course, did cover compressors.

Of course I did not buy the service contract. The copy of the limited warranty I have doesn't mention compressors at all. Has anyone else encountered this?

I find that statement from your salesman to be utter BS considering that the GC and its HVAC system were hot weather tested at the AZ Proving Grounds.

The AC compressor would be covered under the basic 3/36 warranty. Beyond that would require an extended warranty.

Re: Ext warranty sales pitch

3rd party maintenance contracts are usually problematic, but the dealer makes a higher margin on them. If you search the threads here, you will find lots of complaints about them with our Jeeps. If you want one, stick with Mopar. The fact that your dealer lied about it would make me wary of making any service contract deal with him. Check here: Genuine Mopar Vehicle Protection Warranty - Save $$ Today
They are highly regarded by many members.

I would say the finance guy was not truthful, but if you are concerned, you can buy the Maximum Care service contract from Jeep ... the compressor is covered:

Thanks to all who responded. I figured the guy was shoveling a load at me. BTW he also said that FCA warranties don't cover heaters for cars sold in Alaska!

They all push it to some degree. It's usually the finance dept that pushes the up sales. Just like all the dealer options such as the "desert protection package" you'll see listed or similar.
The finance guy at Larry Miller tried to push all kinds of junk. I cut him off early and said don't waste your time or mine I aint' buyin.

Re: Ext warranty sales pitch

In many shops the "finance guy" who sell all the crap doesn't work for the dealer. There are independent companies that provide this so called service. The owner of the dealership should be notified of this tactic. They really don't want to lose customers over this. However, one owner told me that these guys can account for as much as 15% of the dealerships profit, so they use them.

I can't stand Airpark. I was in there twice a few months apart looking at GC's before purchasing mine elsewhere. They typically have the largest inventory around and are closest to me. Between their over aggressive sales staff and cocky attitudes, I could never imagine purchasing there. Glad I never got far enough to talk to 'Desert Protection Package' guy.
