Extended crank, hard starting Pentastar

My 2014 limited 3.6l, has developed a habit over the first 2000 miles of being tough to start. It has never failed to start but sometimes cranks for quite some time. It sounds like it is not getting fuel or enough CCA. I plan on having them check it out when I take it in for an oil change, but didn't know if anyone had had this problem in a 2014. I have checked the battery connections and swapped the battery in the key fob. I have also tried different grades of fuel. Thoughts?

Re: Extended crank, hard starting Pentastar

In a year mine has started instantaneously every time I push the button. Maybe a fuel pump, or filter problem. Dealer should be able to work it out.

Also be sure your foot is squarely pushing down on the brake pedal.

Re: Extended crank, hard starting Pentastar

If it doesn't sense the brake, it won't crank at all. This sounds like some GM cars I've known. The FP relay failed and the oil pressure had to build enough to flip the sensor switch. Haven't looked closely at the logic to see if the same but the symptoms match.

If you shut it down and restart quickly does it restart almost immediately ?

Yes. If I restart it there are no issues. This is what is annoying and makes it so intermittent.

Re: Extended crank, hard starting Pentastar

Wasn't there an issue with the TIPM not receiving a signal and causing a hard start. I am sure you could do a search. Good luck.

Re: Extended crank, hard starting Pentastar

Are you often switching from E85 to regular 87 (E10)? I read in the manual that this could cause hard starts. I haven't had any issues with ours in the past 2.5 years. If it cranks, it starts. I had the occasion of it not recognizing the key, but then it won't crank.

Do not put e85 in a non flex fuel engine. The 3.6 is not designed to run it.

If you do then just be ready to take a hit to fuel mileage. There was another user that put e85 in his and lost about 4.5 mpg

That is not true. And yes it burns quicker so your MPG will be lower, but the V6 is designed to run on e85 if you have the yellow cap or the notice inside the gas lid. Both my 2011 and now my 2014 have this option.
