With hydraulic it was power assist, electric is real power steering which can work hands off.

yep with electric they can tell exactly how much is left in turning left or right etc. ideally Electric "should" last longer. but does require special fluids and from my experience a much more precision handle on steering.

yep they still use fluid even with the electric now instead of a belt spinning the pump it's just an electric pump. some thing crazy like 50amp etc.

Most everything belt driven pumps MOPAR uses power steering +4 fluid Cough Atf +4

I gotta go get some coffee cuz I am "thick" in my mind right now but I thought it was an electric motor not pump...no pump reservoir to fill under the 16 hood and no mention of any PS fluid in manual.

I think "the data on the MiG is innacurate" as they say.

I like to learn and be taught but cmon man b nice, were all brothers here learning as we go. I'll have to read more on this specific setup but I did review the parts schema when I was considering ordering a 16 and the electric steering was a huge tempt for me as I hate hydro pumps as I replaced one in my 14 Summit Hemi and 1 in this 15 SRT at 22k...

Anyway, I thought this electric motor drove the tie rod shafts from the steering shaft input but I certainly could b having a senior moment...if the e motor drove a pump (thought that was the <16 setup I have now) wouldn't the pump need fluid to pump? You quoted that it still used fluid but no reservoir, no mention in manual for any fluid steering related, etc...maybe your psf quote was a typo from your source?

I believe they have moved on from that. I don't think park assist would work otherwise.

Electric power steering is a system that uses an electric motor to provide power assist instead of the traditional hydraulic pump driven by a belt on the front of the engine. Some systems use a purely electric design while others use an electrically powered hydraulic pump with a system similar to traditional power steering setups. The purely electric systems use sensors to detect steering wheel position and the amount of torque applied by the driver during steering inputs and then uses an electric motor attached to the steering column or rack to provide the appropriate amount of assistance for the specific driving situation. These systems can also be easily configured to provide more assistance at low speeds for easy parking and less assistance at high speeds for greater stability. Many systems can even be adjusted by the driver to change from a comfortable to more sporty mode. Because electric power steering is more efficient than its hydraulic alternative and can function even when the engine is stopped it is especially popular on electric and hybrid vehicles, and electric power steering is now found on the majority of new cars.

Maybe one of the Chrysler Tech's can Confirm for us. 2015 SRT i do not believe has a FULL electric according to parts diagrams for 2016's show full electric but 2015 still show Hybrid/Steering

2015 rack $500.

Easy way to check if still use fluid On the driver side look in front the condenser you would see the Power steering Cooler.

2016 electric rack over 1500

Re: Extended Warantee

it is confirmed by evidence, documentation and physical inspection...what more do you need? swing by a dealer lot and try to find the psf (or any) steering fluid reservoir...or you could try to find the recommended steering fluid in the MY16 owners manual...the psf spec you referenced earlier is on page 605 of the MY15 (7th ed) manual but missing from the MY16 manual...
