Extended warranty: Max Care VS. Added Care Plus

I purchased a Chrysler Added Care Plus extended warranty when I purchased my new Grand Cherokee. Given the fact that Chrysler doesn't have the best track record for reliability and it's a first year new design, I thought it was a good idea. The finance manager persuaded me to go with the Added Care Plus instead of the Maximum Care. He said that both he and my sales person have the Added Care Plus and that the Maximum care was kind of unnecessary. I'm having second thoughts and thinking about upgrading to Max Care. I spoke with the finance manager again and he told me not to worry and the Max Care would be a waste of money and the coverage I have would be plenty. There are some MAJOR things not covered by the Added Care Plus, mostly electrical, like the Uconnect system and the remote start. Those alone could cost big bucks. My question is what have others done with extended care warranties and is an upgrade on coverage a good idea???

Re: Extended warranty: Max Care VS. Added Care Plus

I went with the Lifetime Maxcare, I've never even seen an auto maker offer a warranty like that, and for what it cost I thought it was a great deal.

Let me find a recent thread that you will want to read.

Here you go, specifically, don't miss post 27 by GlowingGhoul.

"Lifetime" Extended Warranty"???

Thanks, I really appreciate the thread. Hopefully my dealership will do the upgrade with the price match from the warranty website.

Just an FYI, you have 60 days to cancel your current warranty with full refund. The F&I guy will NOT be happy as he gets a charge back for it, but if it's in your best interest and you decide to cancel as he may not be able to match the price of the max care, then stick to your guns, cancel, and buy the maxcare from the website.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

ok so some advice is needed. I added a warranty when I purchased my jeep that brought the 3/36 up to 5/100 to match the powertrain. I am now wondering if I should have gone with MaxCare? I just checked Chryslerwarranties.com and in CO Lifetime Maxcare with a $100 deductable is only $2153.

hmm decisions decisions..

You bought the 5/100 from the dealership?

Also, it's 2153 on the website but if you put in your email address they immediately send you a code to input and (right now - it changes monthly) the discount is $180 off of that.

Awesome. On the website it's 1250 (incls rebate). If you paid much more than that and it's been less than 60 days I'd cancel and buy it from the website.

To me the lifetime maxcare xtnd warranty decision comes down to "is she here for the longhaul?" That's a hard one for me, since this is the best vehicle I've owned and it'll be the first that's impractical for me to keep. I typically keep 'em forever and keep the wheels on with duct tape and jb cold weld. But eventually the fam will need a third row, so I'll use the equity in this one later on a full size.

So going with a 5-7/100,000 is better for me since I'll trade up long before she goes to that Big Wheel in the Sky. And having a $50 transferrable warranty (which the lifetime does not include) should also help me on the secondary market.

But if you plan on keeping the WK2 past 120k miles or so, there's no doubt the lifetime maxcare is the only warranty to have.

Thanks Hogs. i checked my paperwoek and it seems that my dealer charged me $1300 for the 5/100 so I am going to leave things like they are. it will give me an incentive to get a new WK2 in 5 years

Re: Extended warranty: Max Care VS. Added Care Plus

Thanks everyone for the advice. I purchased my Jeep along with the warranty 2 weeks ago so I have a bit of time to make a decision. One thing that puzzles me though is, twice I inquired about upgrading to the Maxcare and the Finance Manager talked me out of it. Wouldn't he want to make more money off me by purchasing a more expensive warranty??? Is he honestly concerned about saving me money??? The only thing I can think of is, him selling me a warranty he knows will basically be useless and me having to shell out MORE money to pay for repairs NOT covered by the Added Care Plus warranty I purchased. You know, screwing me twice! What do you think?

It sounds to me like there was/is probably some kind of 'spiff' on the added care warranty. A more expensive warranty to you doesnt necessarily mean a better commish for him.
And, in most cases, once you're gone he frankly couldnt care less if you ever have a claim or not, as it doesnt effect his pay that far down the road.
