Re: extended warranty or not?

Update: Just for peace of mind, I took the 7year/85000 mile Maxcare warranty for $1470. I am just a bit worried about the fancy electronics (Nav, Self leveling headlights, pano sunroof, etc etc) and if any of them go bad, that would definitely cost me at least $1000.

Thanks for all your inputs.

Re: extended warranty or not?

I would not necessarily go with the dealerships/chrysler's extended warranty. Since my wife and I are retired from the Marines, we found it better to go through our lending institution (USAA) to get the extended warranty. Our deal that we were able to get covered more and cost less than what the dealership was/could offer. The whole plan for extended warranty (100K bumper to bumper), life insurance (Vehicle paid off in event of death) and Gap Insurance. That cost was 1789. For the same coverage from the dealer it was going to be 5400. So my advice, if you were in the Military get with USAA, other wise checkout what your financial Institution might have. It could save you a ton of money in the long run.

Re: extended warranty or not?

I have to admit, I love that MaxCare warranty. Even for routine items, I get a rental car for free. Add this to the fact that I drive my Jeep LIKE A JEEP and not some ****ing mall cruiser, and the warranty was a no-brainer. (and I've already put 21K miles on my Overland in a year and three months)

As in the thread, chryslerwarrantys.com is a great site that will provide you a darn good price on the extended warranty. Don't buy the warranty right away, but provide your email address. They'll discount it even more with a followup email.

I got my warranty from them in January after the price went up from $1830 to $1900. The followup e-mail that I waited for stated that there were no furthur discounts in effect at that time, so I ended up paying $1900, which was still the best deal I could find by far. The free rental car provision, even for an oil change, makes owning another vehicle (with its separate maintenance and insurance costs) completely unnecessary. The cost savings from that alone makes the warranty worth it in my opinion.

Re: extended warranty or not?

Wow these 100K mile warranties are high for a vehicle that offers a 100K power train warranty. You are basically paying for 64,000 miles of component coverage for $1900? I have a 5 yr/120K Acura Care warranty on my Acura TL, and it cost me $1200.00. That's with a 5/50 bumper to bumper and 6/70K power train warranty. Third party warranty may be a consideration.

Just read this post, sorry dude but you got taken to the bank! you paid 1470.00 for nothing. Power train covers you to 5yr 100K 3/36 on everything else. You can cancel this and get your money back then go on line and google Chyrsler warranties... there you will have a list of dealers (Chrysler) that compete for warranty contracts. They sell CHRYSLER contracts, not 3rd party. I bought a LIFETIME UNLIMITED mileage MAX CARE for my 2011 JGC for 2,000.00. Sorry but they ripped you off!

Re: extended warranty or not?

I purchased a lifetime Chrysler warranty for my '12 Overland for $1950 from the dealer. I keep my vehicles a LONG time... this was a no brainer. Kept my '98 4Runner for 14 years...
I plan on keeping my Jeep for longer than that. Knock wood. Wait, who cares... I have a lifetime warranty!

They make money for the company selling it. 'Nuff said.
Same here. All the consumer mags advise against extended warranties for good reason. The 3/36 bumper to bumper and 5/100 drivetrain are all I need. To pay even more to cover the gap that the standard warranty leaves, doesn't seem like a fiscally wise move. These companies play on peoples fears of a high cost repair and makes a ton of profit doing it.

I think you misread the warranty I purchased. The warranty is Chrysler Maxcare warranty and NOT the dealer provided warranty or any 3rd party.
