Exterior lock button on door handle

Sometimes, certainly not always, say 1 out 10, my door won't lock with the exterior lock button on door handle. 2015 JGC Summit. Everything seems to be in order,. Locks fine with the remote. Works next time.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Exterior lock button on door handle

My tailgate button does that once in a while maybe one out of 20, my door only once or twice. I consider it a success. Others have had similar experiences but not many there's a thread but I don't know if there was ever any resolve. I was going to do my camera upgrade the led's in the hatch and the wiper and make a day of it.

Re: Exterior lock button on door handle

Seems to be a common issue. My 2014 Summit driver door did it and a friend who has a 2014 Summit his driver door lock button is also finicky. Takes a couple presses for it to actually work. I now have a 2015 and the button works flawlessly eveyrtime. Sounds to me like you need a new door handle as these lock buttons get water in them or something.

Re: Exterior lock button on door handle

Mine does it pretty often. It registers the touch--lights flash--but doors don't lock until second press. Annoying, but still beats the hell out of my mom's Lexus.

Just a little hesitant to have the dearer take my door apart.

Exterior lock button on door handle

Are you holding the handle of resting your fingers on the handle? Because if you are the car will not lock as the unlock sensors are detecting your hand.

I did this a few times until I realized that my fingers were almost touching the inside of the handle.

Re: Exterior lock button on door handle

No I am just using my index finger, I have even tried opening and closing the door a few times but doesn't work. Locks no problem with the remote. then it's good for a few times till it happens again. Just afraid that the dealer has to take the door apart and like that idea even less.

Re: Exterior lock button on door handle

Yeah taking your car into a dealer for work is always a crap shoot so I understand where you are coming from. However, a new handle will fix that problem and even though it is minor, having that button work the first time everytime was really nice treat when I went from my 2014 Summit to my 2015 HA.
I think the door handles are fairly easy to change, even though you would have to pay for it yourself, maybe consider just buying one new handle and swapping yourself. One handle is not that expensive, and door panel removal is easy. Maybe do that?

Re: Exterior lock button on door handle

This happens to me sometimes on my 2016, but only on the driver side. Passenger side locks the first time. Not a big deal to me and I wont be letting a dealer take looksy for this issue, only to screw up on something else.

ON my 2014, I just count to 10 after closing door, then it works 75% of the time on the first press.

Re: Exterior lock button on door handle

Well, it seems to work all the time but just not when the Fob is behind my iPhone in my pocket.

Seems the iPhone stops the Jeep from seeing the fob.

Once I became aware of this sure enough, evertime it didn't work the fob was behind my phone and when I move my iPhone to stop blocking the fob it has worked overtime.

Much relived...

I wouldn't carry something like a key fob in the same pocket as my phone. One bump against a counter or table and a small item like that could shatter your screen - or scratch it up. Phone manufacturers can claim indestructible screens all they want, but a small, concentrated pressure from an object is a sure way to prove them wrong.

Besides, it's best to spread out the radio devices anyway so both testicles get irradiated equally...
