Extreme peeling on nappa leather skin? 14' Overland

Has anyone else with a 14' overland experienced something like this?
The "skin" on my nappa leather from my drivers seat and passenger seat has deteriorated rapidly and horribly, it almost looks like my seats have melted and sloughed off huge portions of it's skin.

I have a public google drive folder with pictures here for people to look at:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2...zdvYWtnTkMzdFE

From another older post on this forum, this is apparently the plastic (urethane) coating.

The driver's seat ventilation is mostly blocked due to the skin overlapping the perforations to top it off too. (I rarely ever used the heated seat function, so it can't be that the seats "melted", nor did I ever use any damaging conditioner that could have caused this.)

Now my jeep only recently reached 20k miles, and the normal warranty expired a couple of months ago (Extended warranty is still in affect). But I don't believe either warranty covers this? What the hell do I do here? Can this be repaired? Would Jeep do anything for me at this point? (the OP in that other thread got his replaced.)

Damn, that looks nasty. Never had anything like that happen on my 14 Overland.

There isn't anything you can do but replace it. One of your warranties should cover something as excessive as that.

Good luck! That looks like hell, my '14's seats look like new. I'd push hard on that one.

It looks like someone took a giant magnifying glass and used the sun to melt the seat. What part of the country are you in?

OMG. Do you soak your pants in organic chemicals? That is a terrible thing to have happen. I have never seen anything like that in my 5+ years on this site. Keep us posted as to the resolution. Best of luck to you.

Water, wet clothing or extreme sweating could do that too. In any case, that's incredibly bizarre.

Re: Extreme peeling on nappa leather skin? 14' Overland

As the others have said, that's the first I've seen a vehicle that new showing that much wear. My '14 Overland seats still look like new, just like the others have said. I've got about 10K miles more on mine too, so it's not from a lack of use. To give a little comparison though, my Ram (Sport with heated/ventilated) is also a '14, and I've only got about 10K miles on it. Those seats also look like new. So being driving "a lot" or driven rarely, both look new. I don't think your issue is over use, or lack of use.
I bought my Jeep used, so I don't know what, if anything, they used to treat the leather. I treated them as soon as I bought it, with the same stuff I've been using on my truck seats for the last 2 years. The Jeep seats seemed to really soak it in compared to my truck so I'm guessing the previous owner didn't treat them. I point that out to say that I think that even without treating them for 2 years, they shouldn't look like that, because I doubt mine were treated before I bought it.
I also agree with the thought that warranty MAY cover that. Certainly worth asking them about it.

What conditioners did you use? Jeep recommends water only except to clean stubborn dirt spots.

Lol yeah it's really bad, and I've taken the car to places and people are able to notice from a distance something's up with the seats. It actually looks WORSE in person than in the photos.

I'm in NYC, so the occasional hot weather, but I always park my car behind a building (inside of a driveway) that covers it with shade, I also use a windshield reflector too...

Coincidentally I never really cleaned it that often with conditioners/treatments as I don't have any on hand. I've only ever cleaned it with a damp cloth with water.

I was thinking that If the front seats are developing this, doesn't this mean the rear seats are at a risk of doing this too? Damn!

I'm going to see if I schedule an appointment with a dealer in Manhattan on Tuesday (Was planning to do it today but labor day, etc.)

Happy labor day btw!

Re: Extreme peeling on nappa leather skin? 14' Overland

FWIW I just brought my 15 in on Friday to MJCD for my steering wheel peeling, they submitted pics to FCA for warranty. I am curious to see how your claim goes as well. Attached is a pic of the first sign of peeling which was about a month ago and what it looks like now. Anyone else experience this?

A few years ago Hyundai had a similar issue with their leather seats and peeling steering wheels!
Turned out to be poor leather finishing by the supplier ,push for a warranty replacement.
