Failure to start with push button

The first start of the day with the pushbutton works just fine (so far) . But the next start attempt(s) later in the same day results in the engine cranking for sever seconds without starting. The jeep will then start with the second push of the start button. This has been pretty consistent over the last several days. Anyone else have this problem? We have had this jeep for about a week now its is a 2016 limited with the 3.6. Have not talked to the dealer yet about the issue. At least the button hasn't fallen inside of the dash yet

I think he's talking about the button on the dash to start.

But, you bring up a good point - does it start consistently with the key fob? If the fob works fine maybe the dash button has a bad contact. Maybe the dealer just needs to replace the dash button.

Sounds like it could be easy to replicate.

Hi t05ks,

I would suggest having your dealership take a look at the push button to see if they can address the concerns you're having. Let me know if you need any further assistance!

Here is a an update to the crank but no start issue. The jeep was at the dealer today and wouldn't you know it the problem couldn't be replicated! They said they started the jeep up dozens of times and it started up each time. Unfortunately my wife failed to tell them to take the key fob out of range of the vehicle for a period of time. This seems to be part of the issue as we noticed this the evening before, where if the key fob was left in the jeep and start attempts were made at different times during the evening the jeep would start right up. We then took the key fob out of range of the jeep for about an hour at which point it would crank over but not start on the first attempt. We did capture this 'failure to start' on the cell phone which the wife showed to the service dept. She left the dealer and went and made several shopping stops and each time when she tried starting the jeep it would not start on the first attempt. I changed the battery with a new one and it made no difference. The jeep will recognize the key fob for unlocking, locking and tail gate opening. so there doesn't seem to be an issue with those functions. The mechanic said it is possible that there could have been bad fuel added to the tank where on a hot engine the fuel will 'boil off' and cause a vapor lock situation. Said to run tank down to less than 1/4 and try new fuel. So, if that were true then it shouldn't start using the remote start on the key fob. *engine starts up almost instantly with the remote start. Any thoughts?

Sounds like the simplest solution would be to have the dealer delete your fob code from the computer, then reset the code. Kind of like hooking into a wifi network. Sometimes you have to delete the network and device, then re-pair the devices to work properly.

Sounds weird, I know, but this really sounds like a basic network issue. The key leaves the network, and the system can't "find" the fob for the restart...

Hope this helps!
