Fantom engine startup

Our 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit 3.0 L Eco Diesel has 16000 miles on it and today for the first time ever it started up on its own while unattended in the closed garage. We are not currently subscribed to U-Connect, we don't own a smart phone, we have no apps for remote start and the vehicle has never been remote started. We are dumb founded by what might have caused this! Anyone out there with a similar experience?

Re: Fantom engine startup

I have a 2012 GC with the 5.7l hemi.

I have, on occasion "pocket started" it by accidently hitting the key fob remote start button - sometimes by shifting my weight when sitting or when putting my wallet into the same pocket as the key fob.

Where was your key fob when this happened ?

Re: Fantom engine startup

We really appreciate the feedback. However, to our knowledge, our key fob doesn't have a start button. Until now, this feature would only be available to us through a U-Connect subscription which we intentionally let expire. The U-Connect book tells us we can program a smart phone/app to use remote start for this vehicle, which we have never done, even during the upfront free U-Connects trial period. Our key fob has 5 identified buttons: unlock, lock, lift gate open, lift gate close. Maybe we are missing something here, but we will hit the books. Maybe the vehicle is smarter than we are.

Re: Fantom engine startup

The button with the circular arrow surrounding the X2 is the remote start which can be "pocket started" under certain conditions. Doesn't yours have this button?

I'm not sure if it'd depend on the country or which remote since I have the older one with a separate button but I think it being a Summit it would definitely have remote start.

Re: Fantom engine startup

Yes, by golly, it does have that button and we were working hauling 40 lb bags of wood stove pellets with the fob in our pocket. Thank you so much for taking the time to solve our problem. We have only this car a year and a half and we are still learning features. When we stop learning we will be dead. Thanks

I would recommend calling Jeep and getting the Owner's Manual. Call and book are free!
