Re: FCW Scared the bejeezus out of me yesterday

Interesting development. Got home and looked at the Jeep...the trim piece that surrounds the ACC/FCW sensor is missing! How weird...its too big a coincidence that this has happened twice in as many days and that trim piece is missing. When it happened yesterday I was on my way home from getting it washed....maybe it fell off in the carwash? Been using that carwash for years...

Re: FCW Scared the bejeezus out of me yesterday

This isn't my only vehicle with FCW and I have had no false alarms in both. It is possible that the trim piece on the radar is causing an incorrect collection which may be causing the false alarm.
Hope to hear what the solution is when it is discovered...

Re: FCW Scared the bejeezus out of me yesterday

From what I've read, that trim piece isn't just for show... my guess (having left the microwave industry long ago) is that it helps reduce the side lobes of the antenna pattern..

Also, in addition to the radar the ACC/FCW uses the windshield camera.. so make sure your windshield is clean.

I've had this happen once in the same situation you describe, and I've had it go off "for real" once. Overall I'm glad I have it.

Stopped and bought the new part today, $15. Popped it on there. No idea how it came off of there, its clipped in pretty tight! We'll see if that solves the issue.

Re: FCW Scared the bejeezus out of me yesterday

I've had a couple of false alarms and it definitely spooked me a little. But it also saved my butt during a test drive. I was merging onto the freeway and talking to the salesperson at the same time, and also looking at my blind spot over my left shoulder when all of the sudden the traffic ahead of me came to a complete stop. Needless to say it alerted me before I even knew what was happening. And yes, I bought the Jeep I was driving!

Mine has always worked as advertised. Never had a false. Great feature if you ask me.

Re: FCW Scared the bejeezus out of me yesterday

No issues since the trim was replaced. I'm inWV, 345 mile drive here with rain, bugs, etc and nothing, and I've driven about 100 miles here of country roads, gravel roads, roads that aren't really roads lol and nothing.

The jeep has performed flawlessly BTW

Tony

I've have mine apply the brakes before. Talk about spooked.

Re: FCW Scared the bejeezus out of me yesterday

My FCW had falsed 3 times. Each time it is a car veering off in a turn lane and I start to pass it. Nearly got rear ended the last time, as both myself and the guy behind did not expect it.
I unticked the braking feature in the UC and also have it set to near, but the brakes still activate.
The only way I could turn it off completly is using the botton next to the ECO button.
It is dangerous to have an option to turn it off in UC that does not work.
I love the ACC, but hate the brake activation on the FCW. I would prefer just the warning, like my '11 had.

The trim on mine was missing also.
I recon you will find it was missed at the factory

Thank you! Somebody that has the same symptoms as me. My SRT will apply the brakes for me when FCW is triggered even though I am 100% positive that the option box is NOT checked by automatic braking in the settings section of the radio. My problem is a little bit different as I believe that these are not false FCW triggerings but legit activations. The SRT has such amazing brakes it is easy to trigger the FCW during spirited driving -- if you are going fast enough FCW "thinks" that you cannot stop when in reality those 6 piston Brembo's can stop you with no problem.

TL;dr: Anyway I have the automatic braking box unchecked but during legit FCW alerts the brakes still come on.
