Re: First Dumb Question... Eco Mode Button

Call me crazy, but I think the Hemi Jeep drives fine with Eco mode on, and this is coming from someone who replaced an SRT Charger with the Jeep.

Re: First Dumb Question... Eco Mode Button

Ok, you're crazy. Kidding aside, I think Eco mode being on is fine as well, but I do find myself turning it off or switching to Sport when I drive in the city and let Eco mode stay active when I'm on the highway.

Re: First Dumb Question... Eco Mode Button

Apparently I haven't even experienced eco mode. I took it into my dealerships service department today and they hooked it up. Apparently the UCM or some such thing was not sending the signal from that button to the computer. They kept it to wait for help from Chrysler on it, so they gave me a rental and I went off home.

They just called and said that their solution was to take a brand new one out of another new Grand Cherokee and put it in mine. So I am all good to go. I must say I am completely impressed with this dealerships service. They took one of their new inventory cars out of commission to make sure I had my newly purchased jeep back in a timely manner. Not withstanding the shoddy QC from Chrysler, this dealership has in my opinion done the right thing for a repeat customer. I was really afraid of the service from Jeep dealers based on what I have read, but good first experience.

I've been driving my V6 the same way. Works for me!

How did you figure that out? Just from feel?

I'm getting absolutely horrible mileage and I suspect that Eco mode might not be turning on, or something else is wrong... Truth be told, I notice little difference in the feel of the Jeep from Eco on/off.

Re: First Dumb Question... Eco Mode Button

I didn't figure it out, they told me at the service department that the car was never getting the signal to go into Eco mode, even when I turned the car on. I don't really notice much difference either.. as annoying as that ECO light on my wifes car is, it gave you something to shoot for when driving on the highway or even in the city.. .when it came on, there were less cylinders and thus fuel being used... it would be nice for the button to go green when MDS goes into effect...

Re: First Dumb Question... Eco Mode Button

Gotcha. Yeah, it would be REALLY nice to have SOME kind of informational output on the TFT noting that ECO is ON or OFF. I don't trust a light on a button as my only indication. This thing can show me what my wheel articulation is, a picture of my beast in snow if I'm in snow mode, and aim my backup camera lines with my steering, but it can't tell me on the dash that ECO is on or off?

Some new info that just complicates things. I decided to reset the trip B meter starting from work tonight before the 23 mile trip home. I put the Jeep in ECO mode and tried to feather the throttle lightly whenever I needed some pickup. Kept it 65mph or under. When I got home, the readout said I had averaged 26.5mpg for those 23 miles -- 90% highway, 10% local. But my overall tank average, with just over half a tank left, is still just over 16. I guess I'm just going to have to ignore all this whiz bang gadgetry and do it the old fashioned way -- wait until I have to fillup again and then use a calculator.

Hopped in the 2002 Wrangler when I got home to go out and pick up some chinese food and was reminded of the dramatic difference in these two vehicles.

Re: First Dumb Question... Eco Mode Button

Yep, I don't miss my wrangler to be honest, and it was a 13 so it had the nice interior and 3.6 L V6 engine. It was a great vehicle, but night and day to this thing. My wife and I went out on date night tonight and there is a dip in the road we travel on and in the wrangler going over it would almost launch us into the roof, but the JGC just makes a slight thump noise and we don't move.. my wife looked at me and just says "nice"...

Hahaha...

Different purposes. This thing will be joyous on our trips out of NY, but for a summer day going out to the beach & to get some ice cream, nothing like taking the top off and rollin down the highway... Thing drives like a tractor, but I love it to death. It absolutely killed the two feet of snow we got dumped here in Feb/March, I forget when it was.

I can't wait to see what this GC does in a decent snowstorm. It's hard for me to fathom having a luxury family wagon that is still a killer all-terrain machine. That's going to be REALLY cool!
