If they don't give you back the difference in $$$ tell them to take the oil out and put in what you wanted.

Re: First Oil Change - Dealer said synthetic required

I would have asked them to inform you in writing that the 3.6L required synthetic. In any case, it didn't harm your engine to have synthetic in it, but for sure the dealer wasn't honest.

And yet another reason why I don't allow my Jeep dealer to change my oil

Re: First Oil Change - Dealer said synthetic required

So went back in yesterday and confronted the service manager. He back-pedaled his way out of it by apologizing profusely, said he was new at the job, said that he want for a Chrylser training class where they said that all new Chryslers will be requiring synthetic, and since my car was new, he thought mine required it too. Said that he does not make any money off of those deals etc, etc, etc.....

What mattered to me was that he immediately refunded me the full cost of what I paid and a two year oil change package for free even before I asked for a refund.

If it was indeed a genuine mistake, I can forgive it, but I am not sure I completely bought his story. Since they are so close to my house, I will give him one more chance. If he screws up again they are history.

Sounds fair but I still don't buy the line about all new Chryslers will require synthetic. The API standard is what counts, not syn or dino.

Now that he knows you "read the fine print" he probably won't try to screw you again. That doesn't mean he won't try to pull a quick one on others. It's a shame, but it's the world we live in.

Yes it does. Mainly why i opted to get rid of the SS since we have a child now and needed more room. Told the Wifey: "Only way i'm getting rid of the camaro is if i get another V8." And the rest, is history.

Back on topic: OP sounds like you got a deal there. 2 yrs of free oil changes is a bargain. I don't buy his story either but it is what it is. Either way, you got the longer end of the stick.

Luckily (sadly) it is just around the corner from where I live - I am probably going to have to find another. If there are any Pittsburgers here - a recommendation would be appreciated.
Their price for a 4 pack of full synth changes seems a tad high as well...
... should you decide to go full synth for whatever reason.

Yeah, but only if there is not a Camaro SS in the next lane. Or a Tesla.

Re: First Oil Change - Dealer said synthetic required

Synthetic is a requirement in my vehicles, because I say so.

Synthetic is so routinely common these days I wouldn't be too upset with dealer.
