First Oil Change - Dealer said synthetic required

Took my 2014 GC Overland in for its first oil change at 7500 miles. While I was waiting for them to be done, the service manager came in and said that the oin change would be $89 because of the synthetic oil, and that they have a package of four for $189. I asked him why he recommends synthetic - to which he replied that it was not a recommendation - that it was a requirement for the 3.6 in my car. Is it correct that the 3.6 requires synthetic? If it doesn't I will be going back into the dealer to raise hell. But more importantly, will it harm my engine by using it. I have read other posts in here about valves not seating properly etc.

Some dealers should be tarred and feathered.

Re: First Oil Change - Dealer said synthetic required

Although running synthetic is a better choice IMO, that statement from the dealership is total bullshit.

Time to find a different dealership, or learn to change your oil yourself.

...and after finding a new dealership, I'd even go as far as to report them to Chrysler Customer Care.

Re: First Oil Change - Dealer said synthetic required

Take your manual into the dealer and have them show you where it says that you are required to use synthetic. I, myself, only use synthetic but its not required. If you want to use dino then that is your choice. As long as it meets the API standard it doesn't matter what oil you use.

Re: First Oil Change - Dealer said synthetic required

Find a new dealer for service. These people can't be trusted.

Re: First Oil Change - Dealer said synthetic required

First I would speak to the owner of the dealership. He/she may not be aware of everything going on in his shop. The service manager probably gets a commission or a bonus. Sometimes these incentives cause individuals to step out of line.

Re: First Oil Change - Dealer said synthetic required

Thanks for all your responses. I checked the user manual this morning and did not see where it mentions that synthetic is required. Aaargh - I hate getting fed a load of horse crap - so I guess I am paying another visit to this dealer. Luckily (sadly) it is just around the corner from where I live - I am probably going to have to find another. If there are any Pittsburgers here - a recommendation would be appreciated.

Tell them you expect the return of the difference in cost because they lied to you.

Re: First Oil Change - Dealer said synthetic required

What everyone said and also ask them to pay your loan for a month or 2.

I also prefer synthetic but chose not to on this vehicle. Why? I'm not racing as i did in my previous SS Camaro.

Although the JGC does get up and go when you use sports mode, especially in the V8

Re: First Oil Change - Dealer said synthetic required

That's why I always read the owner's manual thoroughly before going to the dealer - so I can call BS on them immediately!
