First Problem With My Brand New 2014 GC Limited...While Driving Off Dealer Lot!

Literately, while I was driving my brand new GC Limited off the dealer lot this past Monday night a warning popped up on the instrument panel "Service Air Bag System" and a red idiot light. I'm like WTF...really...while driving off the lot? Then I noticed another message that said "Press OK to Hide", so I did...then everything cleared. So I'm thinking OK maybe it's just an electrical snafu.

So now I'm on my way back to the dealership this Saturday so who ever screwed the pooch installing the Clearbra can re-do it (GM agreed totally with me), and that same airbag warning message comes on...I clear it, and it comes back on again. So when I get to the dealership, the Clearbra guy is there waiting for me, and I have a talk with my salesman telling him about the airbag warning I've been getting.

Next thing I know they're setting me up with a loaner car, and said they would call me in a couple hours. 4 hours pass...I get the call, "Your passenger seat airbag and wiring needs to be replaced...maybe this coming Wednesday it will be done". I'm thinking to myself wouldn't something like this show up during PDI? So now I'm stuck with a crappy 2012 Dodge Avenger that has warped rotors and reeks of cigarettes.

I'm pissed...really pissed. Brand new vehicle and this happens. Hope this isn't an omen of things to come.

Yeah, you don't mess with an airbag warning!

I went through something similar with my 2014 GC. I would let Chrysler know how disappointed you are (Jeep has a Facebook page -- they will undoubtedly respond to you). Just be respectful, but firm. My guess is that Chrysler will want to hear about this.

Let the dealer service dept work its magic, and hope that when you get it back that will be the last defect you'll have. That's what I'm hoping for mine...

Re: First Problem With My Brand New 2014 GC Limited...While Driving Off Dealer Lot!

Thanks for the good words amc2002, I hope your vehicle gets fixed soon too.

I gave a call to 1-800-Chrysler and recorded my situation with them...case number is now on file.

I just hope the seat still looks brand new after Service takes it apart and replaces the airbag.

Re: First Problem With My Brand New 2014 GC Limited...While Driving Off Dealer Lot!

I had airbag and a bunch of other warnings come on. It turned out being a bad ground.

One thing about these problems that are popping up is that they seem to be able to pinpoint them pretty quickly.

Unfortunately, based on either prior experience or things we've heard, we all fear the other damage the dealer will do to the vehicle. Hopefully your's will come out unscathed.

Re: First Problem With My Brand New 2014 GC Limited...While Driving Off Dealer Lot!

Well...got my new Jeep back tonight. I was told it was the connecting plug for the passenger seat airbag and not the airbag itself, so they didn't have to disassemble the whole seat. Happy about that.

What I wasn't happy about was whomever comes to their dealership to install Clearbra (as I call it) REALLY sucks. I can't believe they screwed it up again...I mean really, does anyone verify work anymore? Right on the front of the hood near the middle was a quarter sized imperfection...along with stretch marks all over. My salesman was there to hear my complaining and said "We saw some imperfections in the Clearbra on your trade...". Before he could finish I said just stop. He then said "What do I want to do?", and I said I wanted to be reimbursed so I can get the Clearbra installed somewhere else. He then told me he would talk to his manager in the morning.

LOL! - "Just stop...."

Seriously.

Sometimes they should just stop and think for a minute before ruining a relationship.

Re: First Problem With My Brand New 2014 GC Limited...While Driving Off Dealer Lot!

Looks like I spoke too soon about the air bag warning light I got on the dash...it came back this morning.

I also noticed that the plastic panel on the back of the drivers seat is gapping about an inch or so on top..from the back seat area I can clearly see the foam inside the back of the seat...I'll be telling them about this as well.

On another front, still no word from the Sales dept. about refunding my money on the crappy Clearbra job (done twice now). I've made two calls to two different people...no reply back.

Once dealers get your money, eh? Sorry about the dash light. Ugh.

Re: First Problem With My Brand New 2014 GC Limited...While Driving Off Dealer Lot!

*UPDATE*

Just got a call today from the Service Manager where I bought my Jeep. Seems he's been in contact with the Chrysler engineers, and they told him that they need to replace the air bag module...which it seems cannot just be taken off another 2014 GC on the lot...and of course the part is back ordered.

So it looks like I'll be rocking my POS 200 for a while longer. I did tell them though that if Chrysler want to make amends with me (once my Jeep is fixed for real), if they activated the NAV for my 8.4A all would be forgiven.

We'll see I guess.

Re: First Problem With My Brand New 2014 GC Limited...While Driving Off Dealer Lot!

*UPDATE* 5/10

Things took a turn for the better yesterday. My Jeep is still in the shop and I'm still rocking the 200 loaner, but the Service Manager called me again and gave me some better news:

1) Autobaun will be replacing the clearbra for a third time, but this time using the top quality product they offer (instead of the cheap stuff). The Service manager apologized up & down for releasing the vehicle with the clearbra in that condition.

2) He also said he has been in contact with the Chrysler engineers at the assembly plant...and since the air bag module is backordered, Chrysler was going to ship a new one out right from the assembly line instead of waiting for the backordered part. He also said my Jeep may be all fixed by Tuesday of next week (5/14).

3) When I mentioned to the Service Manager about how I feel Chrysler should compansate me for my troubles, I had suggested that once the vehicle is fully repaired, if they (Chrysler) allowed activation of the NAV for free on my 8.4A, all would be forgiven. They said that would be a very good possibility.
