Re: first use of hill descent control .... problem?

Yes, it's a typo. I've tried it several times.

Re: first use of hill descent control .... problem?

For the 2014 is this the same? I figured it would work in normal 4 hi mode as well. Can anyone please confirm?

From our friend the owner's manual:

Hill Descent Control (HDC) Four-Wheel Drive
Models With MP3023 Two-Speed Transfer Case
Only
HDC maintains vehicle speed while descending hills
during off-road driving situations and is available in
4WD LOW range only. To enable HDC, press the HDC
switch.

There you go again.

The stuff in the owner's manual is supposed to be secret. Otherwise, people would be able to read it themselves. You take away all the mystique.

Re: first use of hill descent control .... problem?

How does HDC differ from just being in 1st gear in 4xLO? I take it it's even slower? Is it basically actively working the brakes for you, and thus the noise?

Re: first use of hill descent control .... problem?

If you read the previous three posts, and get out your secret decoder ring, you will find the answer.

Re: first use of hill descent control .... problem?

I tried hill descent mode for the first time yesterday in my 2011. I had it in 4 Low as per the manual. It made an awful racket. I heard it and thought no way in hell can that be normal. It sounded like a car crash played on a loop over and over. Are you guys serious when you say this is normal or are you parroting what the dealers say about it? Vehicles are just plain getting weird. The Enterprise is a lot more advanced than my Jeep and it never makes normal noises like that even when warp drive is on the fritz. What the hell?

4 low should only be used on a loose surface such as dirt or snow. It's not going to sound good nor should it be used on dry pavement, or is this happening on a loose surface?

It was a steep mountain trail that should have been perfect for hill descent. It hadn't been traveled in months and the surface was pretty loose from rains washing stuff loose and washing stuff into the trail. A good bit of gravel, leaves, and loose dirt. Hill Descent sounded like unshelled walnuts in a clothes dryer. I tried it again yesterday going down my dirt driveway (I live on another fairly steep hill) The noise seemed much less after a couple minutes. It's possible hill descent had never been used on the vehicle before as I bought it in Atlanta a month ago with 73000 miles on it. (100 miles away) It looks like a cream puff car driven to church on Sunday by a little old lady. I'm out in the boonies 20 miles from anywhere. (As evidenced by my 22.4 mpg total average, yaay) Hopefully some stuff just needed lubricating by being used. I'll try it some more to maybe break it in. I freaked out the first time I heard all that racket. Thanks for your response.
