Re: FLASH: TRANSMISSION SHIFT ENHANCEMENTS (vehicles with 3.6L engine)

I had the update done a few days ago, and I cant see how the MPG is not going to decrease, I can see no difference with ECO on or off, but I'm fine with the loss as the Jeep is very drivable now. I did notice that it will hold a gear much longer, I have a 2-3 mile fairly steep uphill drive on the way home and it will hold gear around 3k and not shift unless I let off the gas. before it would drop into 6th now it 4th.

Re: FLASH: TRANSMISSION SHIFT ENHANCEMENTS (vehicles with 3.6L engine)

I have driven my updated one a little more and do think that the update is worth doing. It is definitely more drivable and probably safer overall. It is putting the shifts just about where I would expect them most of the time. Mileage is staying about the same. I believe this for two reasons. First is that I am not pushing harder on the gas to accelerate when the gear is wrong. I can do a smoother start without working or bogging down the engine to move properly in traffic. Second, I can decelerate better without having to add gas as much when I can just coast. It is all about understanding your transmission and driving for either economy or spirited. Gas mileage will follow suit. You can also use the paddle shifters for some cases where you may disagree with the auto selected gear. I am finding that I really don't have to.

I performed the update as well and have to say, yeah, this is how it's supposed to be with eco mode on. The downshifts when coming to a light are no longer thumpy. The car no longer has that sluggish, gear finding lag, and just feels more responsive in general. I would liken it to turning the eco modo off, except it still goes go into 8th gear under 40, BUT, quickly downshifts when you need it. This is the update I've been looking for and am really happy so far. Will post an update if anything changes.

Update: after some all day driving, I notice that the downshift thump is still present, though much less noticeable. Car is still much more responsive than before the update which makes Eco mode more usable.

I had the transmission softwareupdate done yesterday and it is an improvement. It holds gears longer and performs much better on hills. Now, if Jeep could get the outside temp reading to be accurate, great. I understand that fix is coming.

I'm getting mine done next week. He thinks that the PCM/Transmission flash should fix the issue but wants to make completely sure. They will also do any other updates that are out there. We'll see how this goes.

so i take it that some of you have had a flash which was ok for a while but went right back to where it was before the flash, sort of like pulling the battery cable out method which lasts for a short while and then goes back to the crappy shifting.

It doesn't go back to the way it was. It's just not as smooth as it should be. I was looking at Audi q5 forums and they are complaining about the zf 8spd also. I have come to the conclusion that it's not jeeps fault, its ZF,s.

Re: FLASH: TRANSMISSION SHIFT ENHANCEMENTS (vehicles with 3.6L engine)

Can the flash be undone? This is why I ask. I had it done even though I was not experiencing any problems due to the rave reviews here about how it feels like a different vehicle, better performance, etc. Trouble is now I feel the rougher downshifts and I have to give it more gas to downshift to accelerate. Almost seems like it worked in reverse for me. What do you think? Can the dealer undo or fix it?

This is not a ZF Transmission they are discussing (it is a Chrysler built model of the ZF Tranny). The ZF Transmission in the V8 and Diesel almost no one has had any issues with those.
