I'm glad you said that. I'm having the same issue-especially when braking lightly to a stop, it's especially bad when the trans is still warming up. If I lay on the brakes hard, it doesnt surge from 2-1. I've also been having possible mechanical issues, I was attributing it to that. I hope this update addresses it, I would consider the surge to be a safety issue in snowy/icy conditions.

It will not do damage at all. Transmissions are interesting that way. A hard shift is often better than a soft one because there is less wear on clutch plates etc. On the other hand obviously not nice for the driver, so they seem to be working on that. Take it is when you get an opportunity, if pressures got too high on shift, like a malfunctioning pressure valve it would throw a MIL.

Re: FLASH: TRANSMISSION SHIFT ENHANCEMENTS (vehicles with 3.6L engine)

Had mine done, I would say it is much smoother, but after just a few miles (and not feeling it during cold conditions) it's far to early to make any real determinations. But, while in for that they found a slew of other flashes I thought I would share as it seems some dealers are not finding the updates people are requesting.

1. 1819059D: Reprogram TCM/DTCM
2. 1819059C: Recal Module, TCM
3. 18-60-02-a9: Radio enhancements version 13.19
4. 18-034-13: Flash update PCM
5. 24-002-13: HVAC Reflash Module, Automatic Temperature

1 & 2 are the same update but 1 is expanded and supersedes 2.... 2 is no longer applicable.

If anyone wants the full details for these, visit WK2Jeeps.com. there is a matrix showing applicable models.

Does it matter that they seemed to do 1 then 2? doing the second one wouldn't screw up the first one, right?

It may have looked like that on the Invoice but no worries, WiTech would only show the latest update so they may have documented it incorrectly. That or sometimes I see them write up one, then get programming and WiTech shows them the other.

The most excellent thing about Chryslers Programming system is it tells you which modules are in need of an update during the process. It is actually very easy to work with, some of the other manufacturers I work with, they use "code lists" and it is very easy to miss a good update.

Alright, phew! Glad to hear it. I'll report back about the shift quality in a hundred miles or so...I find it takes a week or so to get the full effect of the updates with this trans.

Thanks!

You are completely correct, it says right in the TSB that there will be a relearning period.... From what I have been told, you will see improvements well past 300 miles... Not sure if you have kids/grand kids, but you will know if they borrow it on the weekend and are ripping around. The Tranny will "tell" you

Re: FLASH: TRANSMISSION SHIFT ENHANCEMENTS (vehicles with 3.6L engine)

On Friday we received a call from Chrysler following up on the trans update. She didn't ask many questions, but she wanted my overall opinion of how the transmission is now and what mode do we drive the car in typically (Eco, sport, manual)

I told her the update is a big improvement, but there is still an occassion clunk from 1 to 2 and that there is room from improvement. We normally drive in Eco mode.

Not sure if anyone else got this follow up call.

So just to be clear we should all get this 2nd flash (rrt) if we already got first TSB done? Easy to do next time I'm in for oil change in few months.

Yes, it is possible the Clunk that some people noted is associated to the other update that was added.

From the few miles I have, I'm feeling it 4-3 downshift. It also was pretty bad 4-3-2-1 when I braked fairly hard for a light. Maybe it's time for Chrysler to throw the programming back into ZF's court.
