Re: FLASH: TRANSMISSION SHIFT ENHANCEMENTS (vehicles with 3.6L engine)

Does the latest transmission update apply to 2wd overlands? the service bulletin does not say 4wd is a requirement but mentions flashing the transfer case module. Do 2wd models have this module? The dealer I went to says the update does not apply to my VIN and I am trying to figure out why. It is a 2wd V6 overland built on July 25.

SUBJECT:
Flash: Transmission and Transfer Case Shift Enhancements
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves flash reprogramming the Transfer Case Drive Train Control Module
(DTCM) and in some cases the Transmission Control Module (TCM) with new software.

It is OK, you don't need to live here every day any more... you have yours.

Here is the update: http://wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_2100713a.pdf

You can compare it to the one you already needed to argue for.

Re: FLASH: TRANSMISSION SHIFT ENHANCEMENTS (vehicles with 3.6L engine)

Day 2 on the latest flash(es) and I have to say, they've really done a great job with this. It feels like a completely different vehicle on eco-mode. To me, it feels really darn close to non-eco, and that's saying A LOT. The unnecessary upshifts are gone. The slow downshifts are gone. But the best part for me is, downshifting is no longer "wait wait wait.. then downshift to the lowest gear possible!!!". Now it's, "downshift to the right gear, and have enough power to go without scaring people walking on the sidewalk.

Re: FLASH: TRANSMISSION SHIFT ENHANCEMENTS (vehicles with 3.6L engine)

Just got back from getting the latest DTCM flash....all I can say is wow. Thing is great now...no more whiplash on 2-1, 2-3, and 3-4 shifts and i don't have that sudden thump/jolt when getting back on the gas after coasting. I actually pulled my fuse a week or two ago so I think I got most of the garbage data out of the system already. We'll see what I think after I put some more miles on it but so far, well worth the time and effort of getting the update. Like most others have said, I can tell it's not completely perfect...80% I'd say. However, my fear is that it's close enough that they won't do any more refinement on the software as there's no real "problem" anymore. Time will tell.

So, when i called to make my appt, the dealer didn't have the RRT in their system and tried to tell me it didn't apply to my vehicle but I told them I was bringing it in to get the HVAC flash anyways. I know the service advisor and tech on a first name basis now (not sure if that's a good thing or not) so the tech asked me if i wanted to learn a few things, hopped in the Jeep and took me in the shop to show me the flash process. I think they actually wanted to prove to me that these magical flash updates didn't apply to my vehicle. Plugged in, pulled up the software, and surely there was the DTCM, PCM, and HVAC updates available for install - no TCM update. I was a little surprised that this latest revision is just the DTCM update and there was not a secondary TCM update after getting the TCM flashed in August. Maybe that part was mentioned here previously and I just didn't pick up on it.

Are you sure it was just a slight change? The new TSB made it sound like it was a major overhaul from the initial, first update.

Re: FLASH: TRANSMISSION SHIFT ENHANCEMENTS (vehicles with 3.6L engine)

The Malfunction lamp with code PO606 is resolved by the PCM flash update. See the TSB on wk2jeeps.com. Sounds like your techs didn't apply the other flash updates.
