If you had the first and not the second, I believe it updates only 1 of the two components. Much of the original description carries over from the original TSB however they added PCM (don't quote me on which module) Programming *I Believe*. I know some people who got the first one and are perfectly happy now and don't really want to go for the second.

Re: FLASH: TRANSMISSION SHIFT ENHANCEMENTS (vehicles with 3.6L engine)

If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I might still be in their office arguing that there's a TCM update as well. I verified the software was up to date...wanna say 14.01.20. Didn't look at the TCM module to see what version it was at but the fact that the other flash updates showed up as available told me that all was working correctly. The TSB revision only mentions the DTCM and TCM so it makes sense for it to be a revision of the original if they just added modified code for the DTCM. The vehicle felt like things were slightly out of sync after the original TCM flash. I was under the impression that the PCM update was just for the MIL light but what do I know. However it works, all I know is that the thing is a dream to drive so far....major performance improvement over the original TCM update for me. The kicker will be the cold shift performance tomorrow morning.

Re: FLASH: TRANSMISSION SHIFT ENHANCEMENTS (vehicles with 3.6L engine)

Day 5 update:

Updates still a MAJOR improvement over the first transmission flash. Eco-mode is very drive-able, almost as good as non-eco mode. Really, the difference having the latest flashes done was night and day.

After the first flash, my car no longer had harsh down shifting, but it still had some pretty good lag, even though the car was no longer shifting into 8th gear at 40mph. It was far from perfect.

With the new flashes, the power is almost always there when I need it. No long hesitation when pressing down on the gas, and then downshifting into a really low gear causing the car to.. vroom unnecessarily. Now with a slight press of the pedal, the car downshifts to a proper gear and quickly. It's not 100% non-eco mode, but it's pretty darn close.

I would recommend the latest flashes to everyone. It saved my sanity.

Re: FLASH: TRANSMISSION SHIFT ENHANCEMENTS (vehicles with 3.6L engine)

Will, can you clarify, are you saying there was a slight change to the RRT update that came out on 9/11/13? Like, if I got the RRT done a few days after it came out, did they make a change to it? Sorry, I haven't been keeping up with my jeepgarage'ing

Not that I'm aware of. I had the updates that came out on 9/11/13.

No problem,

The Sept 11 RRT was the update to the original flash that was released in August.

Can you tell me if yours has improved? Is it still mostly the problem is when cold?

Thx,

Okay, good. There have been improvements, but not success. After a embroiled battle with Chrysler which I have on pause, they have assured me my problem was with software and bad pairing with adaptive transmission settings. The adaptives were wiped and the update was installed but the cold 2-3 is still not smooth per say- but it doesn't feel as neck breaking as it used to (especially if you ease up on the gas as it's about to shift). To back up their story, the RRT gave some continuity in 1-2-3-4 cold shifting... Same slow clutchy shift on each haha. I was told they have a different shift map when cold to help the trans warm up. I'd like them to address the cold shifting. When it hits 130deg, it seems to change the shift map and is smooth.

But otherwise:
-> 5-4 needs to be smoothed out at all temps. When it downshifts it revs the engine and feels like I tapped the brakes hard. That is just poor software-so its fixable.
-> 2-1 needs to be smoothed out at all temps when braking slowly. It still shifts hard, revs the engine and overall just feels like crap. Should be fun on icy roads.

I'd say they are 75-80% there. I'd like to see them just hand the ball to ZF to write the software but I doubt that will happen haha.

Well that is a fairly big improvement from our initial conversations. I wanted to get your take on the situation as you have yourself said you are picky . They are working very closely with ZF on the programming performance as that is part of the contract.

I was actually please to hear that you feel it is at 75%-80% of the way there as that is a marked improvement.

I don't know where they are at presently with this but if people are providing feedback such as yourself I think it will continue to produce better results. One word of caution though... on a learning transmission don't try and compensate for particular shift points by changing throttle etc. Otherwise your are going to teach the transmission to compensate for that. Drive the vehicle the way you drive and sometimes some of those harsh up-shifts will smooth out.

I have see where people are focused so much on making it drive better by feathering the throttle that you are actually teaching your trasmission bad habits (mainly solenoid shift pressures).... just a thought,

Thanks for the response!!

Hey Will,

Well, my transmission has bad habits from poor software and I am trying to work around them at this point--I mean for months I've dealt with this harsh cold shifting and drove as I normally did and it never smoothed out--thinking that it will resolve itself would be the very description of insanity. I've been pretty patient with Jeep and their software development, but this should have been nailed down before it went prime time.

I don't at all disagree with you... I am offering some pointers that may be of use however considering that you have already tried that, I understand.

I do believe you have been more than patient in dealing with this, and it is disappointing they have not been able to find resolution.

Thx,
I have the Sept 11 Flash.

It has improved but it definitely still does the whiplash thing.

But this morning it felt like the flash update was never done.

Was going perhaps 30 mph. Slowing for a red light.

Light changed before I slowed down all that much and I put my foot back on the gas, pretty gently. To go back to the MPH I was going, about 35 MPH.

It went into whiplash mode and dropped into 2nd Gear.

It was cold this morning but not that cold (40's over night) and I was on the road for like 10 minutes when this happened.

I did have a small trailer on it yesterday.

It also seemed to bog down accelerating away from a stop like it used to. That was much improved since the Sept 11 flash.

I also noticed this morning that my Setting to Sync Temp Controls reset to be independent. Which I thought was odd. Did it do a "Windows System Restore" from say a 3 weeks ago?
