Re: Flawed Paint

I guess I should just leave it as is. The real fun will begin with this thing when I quit babying the paint. Maybe I could put a big racing stripe on each side to cover it up.

Yeah, and your point? Regardless if my car was a Ferrari or a Jeep Overland I simply do not like re-sprayed cars. Your right its not the end of the world, but I was simply trying to help the OP and consider other factors that go into repainting parts of a car. Its just my opinion so take it for what its worth, but I would not want a new 30 or 40+ thousand dollar car that has already had panels repainted.....Ferrari or Jeep I dont care.

Either way though, its just a SUV so who cares ;-) j/k'in

There is some orange peel, but its more a wavyness thats caused by insufficient hand sanding after the paint is applied. I don't consider it a big deal.

I agree 100%. Looking at these pics I don't see the issue, but the pictures aren't very good and I'm sure its there in person. A respray is never the same as the factory paint. no matter how skilled the shop, or how skilled the painter. I would think long and hard about it, and whether or not you're just buying yourself more problems. I might take the Jeep to a detailer and see what they think, if its something they can spot wetsand out...etc...

Re: Flawed Paint

My paint looks like hell After purchasing the truck (Black Overland) I noticed in 3 spots areas where their is dirt in the paint and it is a true flaw. I complained when they asked me to do a review of my truck with Jeep.

Re: Flawed Paint

I would be pissed if that flaw was in my paint and would have them fix it for sure. Just make it very clear that nothing short of a perfect match will do and inspect it under all different lights (daytime/night/fluoresent etc) You might even suggest having them swap the fender out to another on the lot.

Yeah it's not a ferrari, but it's not a Kia either.

Re: Flawed Paint

My GC has some orange peel on the side panels. My previous $72K 2010 BMW M3 had even worse orange peel on the sides.

I have yet to see any manufacturers paint that doesn't have orange peel on the sides of the vehicle. Well I never did look at Rolls Royce, Maybach or other really high end cars. Maybe they don't have any.

So to me, the paint job on my GC is fine and better than I expected in this price range.

Funny you say that, Rolls Royces have the most incredible paint I have ever seen, absolutely zero orange peel.

The newer Lexus paint is pretty good too. I had a 2003 ES that had a lot of orange peel, but my 2010 is excellent and the LS model is even better because it has an additonally hand rubbed finish.

Re: Flawed Paint

When I pickup my Overland I saw an small defect in the paint of the front fender. I was able to get $300.00 from the dealer. May be you can ask for some
accesories...

Re: Flawed Paint

I went ahead and had the dealer fix the paint. They did an amazing job. I detailed my new baby this weekend and could not tell the difference. All is good. Now I have to upgrade the sound system.

Re: Flawed Paint

I spotted this paint flaw in the tailgate. It actually looks worse in the flesh, including further up the rim of the panel. I think I will get the dealer to fix that panel. Opinions?

Re: Flawed Paint

Silver is a very difficult color to match perfectly.
I know, I have always had silver vehicles and I too learned the hard way!
The touch up job never matches the factory finish.
My current Jeep is silver and has the front fender paint flaws.
Factory paint is still the very best.
Cheers
