Anyone here noticed flawed paint on their rides after they got them home. I just got my new Laredo E and on the first wash noticed two factory paint flaws. One on the front fender and one on the back door. The dealer says they have to repaint both areas to fix it. On a separate note, does anyone know what the gizmo is under the passenger seat? It looks like a little power amp.
The main flaw was easy to miss on silver paint. In the night light it sticks out bad. Someone rubbed against the paint on the fender during production and the robot painters didn't notice. Sorry about the lousy camera photos.
So they put the power inverter under the passenger seat. I am going to upgrade the "media center 130" by putting a Pioneer amp on top of the battery cover and adding some new speakers. I was wishing that gizmo under the seat was a power amp so I wouldn't have to run the speaker wires back to the head unit. GM-D9500F
That's the battery under the seat not an inverter, when I was at an accident a few weeks ago with a totaled wk2 I was the only one that knew to look there to disconnect it
Ugh, before you go letting the dealer re-spray large parts of your car sit down and seriously think if thats what you want to do. I would personally rather have a couple minor paint defects on original paint from the factory then a car that has been re-sprayed. 90% of repaint jobs are never perfect, will not match perfectly in different lighting conditions, have different clear coat texture etc etc. Basically, the moral of my story is, do you really want a brand new Jeep thats already been repainted? Also, think of resale. There are a lot of picky people out there like myself that will absolutely turn a vehicle down if the car has had any repaint work before even hearing the reason behind it. Dealerships also look into that as well if you ever go to trade it in and will have a negative effect on it without a doubt. if it were me, I would definately not have some shop do repaint work on my Jeep.
a couple minor defects in OEM paint > a new jeep thats already had repaint work thats probably not as good as the defective OEM paint

I agree. Remember factory paint is cured at like a million degrees and a shop at usually less than 100 degrees. On the other hand, my white gold paint job is really very good. It is smoother and glossier than the fleet cars I had from Ford or Chevy.
I guess I should just leave it as is. The real fun will begin with this thing when I quit babying the paint. Maybe I could put a big racing stripe on each side to cover it up.
My paint looks like hell After purchasing the truck (Black Overland) I noticed in 3 spots areas where their is dirt in the paint and it is a true flaw. I complained when they asked me to do a review of my truck with Jeep.
I would be pissed if that flaw was in my paint and would have them fix it for sure. Just make it very clear that nothing short of a perfect match will do and inspect it under all different lights (daytime/night/fluoresent etc) You might even suggest having them swap the fender out to another on the lot.
Yeah it's not a ferrari, but it's not a Kia either.
My GC has some orange peel on the side panels. My previous $72K 2010 BMW M3 had even worse orange peel on the sides.
I have yet to see any manufacturers paint that doesn't have orange peel on the sides of the vehicle. Well I never did look at Rolls Royce, Maybach or other really high end cars. Maybe they don't have any.
So to me, the paint job on my GC is fine and better than I expected in this price range.

Funny you say that, Rolls Royces have the most incredible paint I have ever seen, absolutely zero orange peel.
The newer Lexus paint is pretty good too. I had a 2003 ES that had a lot of orange peel, but my 2010 is excellent and the LS model is even better because it has an additonally hand rubbed finish.
When I pickup my Overland I saw an small defect in the paint of the front fender. I was able to get $300.00 from the dealer. May be you can ask for some
accesories...
I went ahead and had the dealer fix the paint. They did an amazing job. I detailed my new baby this weekend and could not tell the difference. All is good. Now I have to upgrade the sound system.
I spotted this paint flaw in the tailgate. It actually looks worse in the flesh, including further up the rim of the panel. I think I will get the dealer to fix that panel. Opinions?
I have it booked into Impact Panel Works at Moorooka for 3 days in December. Has anyone had experience with this shop? As much as I Google search I cannot find any negatives and found a few happy customers in my searches.
That would drive me insane on the tailgate lol. My Maximum steel is at the body shop today getting her rear bumper cover re-painted from where i back into my neighbors car :-(
Silver is a very difficult color to match perfectly.
I know, I have always had silver vehicles and I too learned the hard way!
The touch up job never matches the factory finish.
My current Jeep is silver and has the front fender paint flaws.
Factory paint is still the very best.
Cheers
I just got my car back from the panel shop today today and after having a very close inspection in the shining sun I must say I am very impressed with the job. I cannot pick a difference no matter which way I look at the paint in any light. Only negative is the dealer did not have the replacement "4x4" and "Overland" badges in stock to replace the old, so I have to wait and take it back again. At least I get a new loan car each time.
So thumbs up to Impact Panel Works at Moorooka.
