Re: Fling that grease...everywhere!

No, nothing noticeable at all in the way of noise or vibration. That is the thing about this problem. There may or may not be any warning sign (other than the grease) of failure until it is too late. Who knows what may happen but it is better to look underneath for any indication of grease where it should not be by, or around the rear differential.

They only replace it as an assembly. They don't do just the boot.

Re: Fling that grease...everywhere!

It's quicker for them to just replace the whole thing. They want to get it done and out the door in order to get the next money making vehicle into the repair bay.
Otherwise, there'd be a bunch of time involved with removing the boot, repacking grease, re-clamping the boot, etc. And all that work would have to be warranteed by the dealership. If they just replace it as an assembly, then if anything is wrong with the assembly, Chrysler pays the bill, not the dealership.

Re: Fling that grease...everywhere!

In May, I too had the same issue with my Drivers Rear Axle Boot closest to the Rear Diff leaking Grease and needed to be replaced at 700 Km (435 Miles). I had to wait a week while a new Drivers Rear Axle came in and was replaced by the dealer.

Yesterday, noticed sweating around the Drivers Front Axle and took it to the dealer- sure enough another Axle now on order. Second Axle to be replaced this one at 7,600 Km (4,700 Miles)

Does seem to be more than an isolated instance to me.

Re: Fling that grease...everywhere!

Seems like we may be looking under these things on a frequent basis for a while. Great.

Re: Fling that grease...everywhere!

Thanks for pointing me here fireon.

I'm having a squeek from the front end while braking over large bumps. Crawled under it and noticed what looked like oil collecting on the lower A arm on drivers side front. Took it in and they said it needed the front axle shaft replaced. I doubt this is related to the squeek though.

Re: Fling that grease...everywhere!

Axle update. I had the left rear axle replaced today by the dealer. The warranty ticket states the CV and axle are sold only as a set. I also had the flash done for the 5.7 and all I can say is... Wow! It sure does help in the acceleration arena and also quiets down the cooling fan, which was really loud. I can hardly wait to see what a tuner can do for the Hemi!

Of course, as the drive assembly is more expensive one boot. For this reason, Russian dealers refused to warranty replacement the drive put the wine in a break the anther to the owner of the car.
