FOB Valet Key Alarm

I have a 2015 GC. I was not able to unlock the car from the handle or the FOB button and thought the battery needed replacement. I had a spare battery in the car so I used the valet key to unlock the door. Then the alarm went off while I was finding the battery and getting it changed.
Is it normal for the alarm to sound if you use the valet key to get in the car because of a dead battery? Is there a way to silence the alarm easily?
Thanks,
Doug

As per your owners manual which is full of useful info and worth a read:

To Disarm The System
The Vehicle Security Alarm can be disarmed using any of the following methods:

• Press the UNLOCK button on the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter.
• Grasp the Passive Entry Unlock Door Handle (refer to Keyless Enter-N-Go™ in Things To Know Before Starting Your Vehicle for further information).
• Cycle the vehicle ignition system out of the OFF position.
NOTE:
• The driver’s door key cylinder and the liftgate button on the RKE transmitter cannot arm or disarm the
Vehicle Security Alarm.
• The Vehicle Security Alarm remains armed during power liftgate entry. Pressing the liftgate button will not disarm the Vehicle Security Alarm. If someone enters the vehicle through the liftgate and opens any door the alarm will sound.
• When the Vehicle Security Alarm is armed, the interior power door lock switches will not unlock the doors.

So as you see, the key will not disable the alarm by itself. Once you start the car with the FOB pressed to start button, that will disarm it.

There is suppose to be another method, although it did not work when I had a flat FOB battery once.

NOTE: In case the ignition switch does not change with
the push of a button, the RKE transmitter (Key Fob) may
have a low or dead battery. In this situation a back up
method can be used to operate the ignition switch. Put
the nose side (side opposite of the emergency key) of the
Key Fob against the ENGINE START/STOP button and
push to operate the ignition switch.
