Ever notice how FCW doesn't trigger against construction barrels even if they are directly in front of your path of travel (e.g. at a lane crossover)? I suspect there's an image recognition algorithm that is an input to ACC/FCW that attempts to identify "vehicles", and it likely keys off things that look like reflective license plate rectangles. Again, speculation, but I could imagine coming steeply uphill and having an overpass with a reflective rectangular sign matching algorithmic "stopped vehicle ahead" criteria.
I can't recall whether the overpasses had signs or not. I do know that it doesn't always happen, even with the same overpass. There is one on Kenwood Road near my house that I go under when I leave home to get on the expressway toward Cincinnati. I would say that FCW alerts on it about 10% of the time when there are no other cars on the road.

Re: Forward Collision Warning Problem

False warning happenning to me as well. It will happen with nothing in the road as well as when exiting the highway. I found this article today. I believe it has only happened at highway speeds vs side roads.

Automatic braking systems are braking at the wrong time, say investigators | The Verge

Re: Forward Collision Warning Problem

I've been dealing with false alarms too from the FCC. Mostly on highways but not all. Kinda been dealing with it as there is no code thrown. But, my Jeep has had a ton of issues, doing mediation paperwork.
Kinda bummed because she beautiful and comfortable but I have and had bugs galore.

Re: Forward Collision Warning Problem

So I stopped by the dealership yesterday and told them my problem. The service personnel has no knowledge of the NHTSA compliant and told me my dash cam could be interference the system. So, I make an appointment to have them take a look Monday.

Good luck. Since no codes are thrown and it's almost impossible to get it to happen while at the dealership, they can't come up with anything as a rule. I doubt your dash cam is the problem. I've had it off and on since buying the vehicle two years ago.

Re: Forward Collision Warning Problem

Mine did it a couple of times and the dealer said it was a mis-aimed sensor (too low)....they re-aimed it a tad higher and I have not had any false warnings/brake activations since.

Re: Forward Collision Warning Problem

I doubt my local dealership will find this except blaming my dash cam interference the system.

Re: Forward Collision Warning Problem

My understanding is it primarily works by tracking MOVING objects and the rate that you are closing in on moving objects. That's why it will not stop with ACC if the car in front was at full stop before it got a lock on that car. Same goes for FCW. It has to "lock on" to a moving vehicle before ACC/FCW takes action.

MY16 will handle stationary objects.

Re: Forward Collision Warning Problem

I've had this problem and mine is at the dealer's now where they're looking at it. It "cries wolf" so often that I've learned to ignore it, which isn't good. What I really miss is the ACC. I really like ACC!
