Found another issue!

So one week of owning my 2014 Limited I just noticed another thing. The sunroof when closed does not sit flush on the drivers side. The passenger side is ok. Here are pics:

Is this something I can do myself or the dealership? So frustrating that a 40k Jeep would roll off the assembly line and through QA and nobody notices.

Re: Found another issue!

Dealership can adjust. We had a similar issue on our Outback.

So far this sunroof issue, misaligned/bent liftgate handle trim, steering wheel off center and steering wheel shakes at 65mph. Almost afraid to look anymore.

Re: Found another issue!

Would it be OK if it was a $30,000 vehicle? Maybe folks with $70,000 vehicles feel $40,000 vehicles would be acceptable with defects.

There is a procedure for aligning the sunroof that has to do with opening and closing it in a certain sequence. I'm not sure it will solve your problem, but it was posted a while back and you might be able to find it if you search for it.

See what I mean Bill. Can't go long before another problem/misalignment pops up.

But I told you to put yourself in "time out" for a week.

I'm really not too concerned with misalignments that pop up here and there. That's the price we pay for the relatively low prices we pay for mass produced vehicles. What bothers me are the most common problems, whether software or mechanical. Those should have been picked up during the 'extensive' testing that was done prior to production.

As far as I'm concerned, none of these issues should be on any brand new vehicle. Whether it be 20k, 30k, 40k or 70k.

I agree. I didn't understand why you specified, forty thousand dollars.

Re: Found another issue!

I see Bill's point of view (and for that mater Bob's too). The problem is I could spend $20,000 more on something similar and sure, the tailgate or sunroof might come out of the factory perfect every time because they do go over fit and finish in the premium brands with a fine tooth marble (haha if anyone remembers the old Lexus commercial). Fact is the meat and potatoes under the sunroof wasen't engineered any better.... and I don't want to pay $20,000 extra so 1 in 10 vehicles are perfect that might not have been.

I am not at all saying that these should be this way but it does happen. The big stuff, like how well the dash is holding up to rough roads in 3 years and the quality of the chassis build, this is where North American has made huge leaps in quality the last few years. Sure there are some little problems and yes they totally suck at any price but I find the design overall is a huge step forward in real quality.

anyway, all IMHO, but I drive lots of stuff.... just finished my test of a 2014 Silverado LTZ!... and it was OK.
