Fractured wheel - covered under warranty?

Anyone have any idea if a fractured wheel (rear passenger) on a three month old WK2 would be covered under warranty? I was driving down I-85 and heard a loud BANG... pulled over, and a chunk of metal was missing from the wheel. Looks like it fractured at one point and flew apart. It's not the entire 'spoke' (I've got an Overland Summit), just a 1/2" thick, 2"x3" chunk from one of the spokes.. I really hope that chunk didn't hit anyone behind me..

There's no damage to the wheel other than that -- no dents or scratches, etc. I am positive I haven't hit anything that would do that (the fracture is a few inches from the tire).. The tire maintained pressure. I've already swapped the spare into its place... and man that thing is ugly (and the air pressure sensor module is annoyed).

Any idea if Chrysler will even consider covering it under warranty, or am I completely screwed and out $300?

Yeah; I'm pretty sure they're going to come back with 'you abused it'... I'm going to call the dealer on Monday - I just wanted to be prepared.

Re: Fractured wheel - covered under warranty?

If there is no visible damage from hard impact to the tire I cannot see how jeep could deny a warranty replacement to the wheel?
