Front defroster only working on half of the windshield

I have kind of a strange issue with my front defroster on my 2014. Had this happen twice now. It seems to work fine for about 10-15 minutes and then all of a sudden the two sides of the front defroster start blowing different temperatures. This result is having a ton of moisture on one side (of course the driver side) and it is completely clear on the other side. Took it into the dealership this morning and had them actually see it; they could tell it was blowing hot air on one side and cold air on the other. I don't think it's a blend door issue since it works for a while. The service manager thought maybe it was an infrared sensor in the cabin that was getting confused. Has anyone else had this issue?

And if it is the infrared sensor, is that something they have to tear the dash apart to fix or is it an easy repair? Guess I don't know where that sensor is in my Jeep. It kind of makes sense it is the sensor since my AC has been blowing at 70 even on cooler days when I don't think it should be running at all. I was thinking something was going on.

Sorry accidentally attached the pic 2x... Can't figure out how to delete it.

I've noticed this same thing on mine. I haven't done anything about it though and I'm out of warranty, so I probably won't unless it really starts to bother me. I usually get around it by turning the temp up instead of relying on the automatic.

I'm curious what they say about yours though. Keep us updated!

Will do. May be a few weeks before I get it back in though.

Re: Front defroster only working on half of the windshield

Hey OP. Any update? Mine does this same thing. When we get a wet snow, after starting the jeep, the windshield fogs up. Turn on defrost and the passenger side clears in seconds. Takes a few minutes on the drivers side. Mine looks just like your pics
1st I thought might be dirty window but last time it happened the glass was cleaned

Mine would do the same and I would have to turn the temp up on whichever side was doing it. Always seemed to happen for the side that was under 73.

Recently had the HVAC TSB done. However, haven't had an opportunity to test it out yet.

Well at least there are a few of us with this isssue. Mine hasn't done it since....Let us know if that fixes it for you. Too cold here to replicate the issue, seems to be a Fall thing. I do remember my temp was set at 70 tho... goes along with your comment about being under 73 degrees.

^ yeah, I keep my temp at 67. I'll try to raise it to see if that helps. Strange though it's only the drivers side
