Front end rattle over bumps

I am on a business trip and drove from DC to NH this past weekend. Noticed that sometime on Sunday that I have a rattle from the front end when I go over bumps and dips in the road. Roads up here aren't the greatest. Steering seems fine and not loose. Just had the half shafts replaced for the second time a couple weeks ago. Suspension seems to be fine, it isn't thunking and generally feels fine.

Any thoughts? If I get some down time, I am going to tyr and run it by the local dealership to see if they can throw it up and take a look.

Re: Front end rattle over bumps

Tie rod end, shock bolts, ball joints, etc...all can create a rattle even if they are just a little loose.
I had a small rattle in the front end after an alignment and found a tie rod end about a 1/4-1/2 turn loose

Too many mods to list for each, so let's just say a lot was done over the years.

Re: Front end rattle over bumps

Mine were the end links when this happened to me. Like @ekaz said, they only have to be a little loose to cause the rattle.

Re: Front end rattle over bumps

Is it a rattle or a more like a metallic squeak sound?

A rattle. I haven't had a chance to get underneath and check it because I have been working 12 hour days.... Kind of feels like what I had happen in my G8 where the ball joints were shot (was a common issue). If I can do it, I may jack up one of the front wheels and give it a shake to see if there is any play.

Re: Front end rattle over bumps

Check the plate behind the brake rotor. Mine was loose and the rattle was very annoying.

Re: Front end rattle over bumps

Ended up being and endlink with "excessive play". I was able to get it into a dealer yesterday and they were able to fix it up. Good thing because I-95 through CT and NY sucked. Now I know why people hate the GW Bridge.....

Next trip switch over to I84 to the Tappan Zee, you'll have a much better trip. My preferred route heading/returning from NH/ME region.

Going up I went west up 81 to 84. Should have gone the same way lol. I was in the seat for 12 hours Wed. I was hoping to get out in NJ when I stopped for gas but forgot about that whole "can't pump your own gas" thing. I now know why people hate the GW Bridge. Took me 2.5 hours to go 8 miles........
