Angry Re: Front license plate was drilled in by dealership??? How is yours installed?

Delaware has no front plate (or window inspection sticker). My JGC came from a dealer in Maryland (front plate state). I attached a picture taken the day it came in. Not only had they screwed in the 4 holes in the plate holder, the idiots for good measure drilled screws in the holes for the plate. So the dealer is fixing the bumper with 6 holes. There won't be any template dimples for the factory plate I was told. If I am not happy, they will replace the bumper with a new skin. The repair will take 2 days, I get a loaner, and slush mats for my trouble.

Re: Front license plate was drilled in by dealership??? How is yours installed?

I took out two upper original screws (out of 4 screws that hold the bracket in) and screwed them again through the plate .

Re: Front license plate was drilled in by dealership??? How is yours installed?

We don't need a front plat here in LA so no bracket included. My wife wants her LSU tag on the front and I'm not excited about drilling into my new bumper, I asked the dealer to do it and they refused because it's not required. I have a bracket from a previous car and the bumper skin has the dimples to show where it should be drilled. Will I hit metal behind the plastic or does it just screw into the plastic?

the dense foam which absorbs impact is directly behind the dimples

Once you use the OEM front plate bracket you end up with six holes.

4 from the the screw that hold on the bracket

2 from the screw that keep the plate in place.

I don't know if you have seen how large those screw are but they make some large holes.

The only real remedy is replacing the bumper cover.

Some have talked about the bumper plugs. Eventhough they fill the offending holes they are still pretty obvious.

Re: Front license plate was drilled in by dealership??? How is yours installed?

I've always used nylon, 1/4 20 license plate bolts to hold the plate to the bracket. There is no need for them to damage the bumper.

Repairing most bumpers is pretty easy. 3M makes great products just for this purpose. Once you paint the entire bumper you should not be able to see the holes.

And that foam is strong enough to hold the bracket?

the plastic bumper itself is strong enough to hold the bracket. the bracket and plate weigh less than a pound and have no forces on it besides wind.

I was just letting you know that you won't hit metal when you screw in the plate bracket.
