Fuel cap warning

Whilst filling up my JGC 2012 at home I got sidetracked and forgot to put the fuel cap back on, my wife needed the car and went, after driving down the freeway another motorist flagged her down about the cap being off. According to the manual there is a warning light on the dash that is suppose to warn you if the cap has not been put on properly. Took it to the dealer and told there is no such warning, then why does Jeep have it in the vehicles user/operating manual????

Re: Fuel cap warning

The warning light will be a check engine light and it does not come on until quite a few miles.
There is no actual sensor that tell you the cap is off.

Having at least glanced through most of the 8 versions of the owner's manual for the '14 Grand Cherokee I came to the conclusion that the people who write the manual will forfeit their jobs if they are ever caught actually looking at one to the Jeeps they are writing about. Just like some of the writers for auto magazines and blogs.
