Re: Fuel usage

Here in the Twin Cities, currently on 'winter' blend 10% ethanol fuel and I've been trying to use the cruise on the freeway into work as much as possible (65mph) and I got 21mpg on the last tank. That's combined 'city' and 'freeway' driving. If I get 'rambunctious' it drops to 19mpg. With summer blend fuel that's usually 20-22mpg.

The last extended trip we took resulted in 24mpg with 70mph on the freeway and 60mph on the country roads.

I'm only at 5k miles and I'll be switching to full synthetic oil in a 1000 miles or so. So by next summer I anticipate an easy 25mpg on the extended trips.

I'm happy!

Re: Fuel usage

I get terrible gas mileage in my V8 - so bad that I may need to trade in the SUV if gas gets any more expensive. I get around 10MPG on my bumper-to-bumper commute and about 20MPG on the highway.

Re: Fuel usage

In the warmer months I was getting 18 - 19 mpg with my hemi. Now I'm getting 16.5 - 17 mpg in the colder temps / winter blend fuels. My driving is 50/50 city/highway.

My old 3.7 liter v6 liberty only got 15 mpg winter 16 mpg summer under the same conditions. Considering the hemi WK2 is much larger, much heavier and much faster I'm ecstatic with the fuel economy!

Re: Fuel usage

I think it's the transmission, not the engine so much, that makes the Liberty suck gas more than WK2 and even the WK. It needs another gear.

Re: Fuel usage

My overall average so far is 14.8 - runs from 13.2 to 18.9. 95% of my driving is short trips (5-10 miles) with a few longer highway trips.

Re: Fuel usage

Since you asked in metric:
Over the lifetime of my 2011 V6 (about 79,000 kms), I have an overall average of 12.6 L/100km from date of purchase, which is of course a mix of everything from city to highway to idling in the winter to warm up, but I do a lot of highway.
On the better tanks of pure highway driving I can get it down to about 11.4 L/100km.
All with 10% ethanol gas.

Just curious how you guys are tracking mileage? I recently started using an iPhone app - road trip lite (the free version). It's worked well so far, so I'll probably buy the full version. Big investment - $.99- so I really need to think that one through.. I'm never without my phone so this one works well for me, but I'm sure there are also a million others..

i used to track it and just made an excel sheet, enter mileage/fuel and it converted it all, averaged last 5/10 tanks and overall.
