When this happens are you using a pump with one of those big plastic boots around the nozzle?
No. Not in my case anyway. I won't go near a station that has a vapor recovery system. Most of the stations around me who have had them, have removed them because of constant customer complaints. Another solution to a non existent problem.
The Obama administration and the Environmental Protection Agency announced Thursday they intend to phase out the rubber boots on gas pump handles now used to capture harmful gasoline vapors while refueling cars.
I have the same problem. Costco pumps and Shell nozzles seem to be the most problematic. For me, holding the handle higher and pointing the nozzle downward more seems to help, but it takes a number of tries to get it right. Definitely frustrating.
I had to bring in my 2014 for other work, and the service dept discovered that there was a bad check valve on the fuel tank that they say is the culprit. We'll see once they replace it if it remedies the issue, but hopefully this helps someone else.
