Gauge Cluster Spots

Background info: I have a 2014 limited that I bought certified a few weeks ago.

Has anyone else experienced little dots that almost look like blisters on the gauge/instrument cluster. I can't tell if it is a defect in the glass, or maybe someone cleaned it with the wrong product, or there was some over spray of something when the dealer was trying to detail something else. I tried cleaning it myself and even tried scratching it a bit with my nail to see if it was residue that would come off, it would not.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this with their cluster, or if this is something unique to me. Basically I want to find out if there is something I can clean it with to fix it, or if it is a defect in the glass. Sorry I don't have picks but it is one of those things where you can only see it in certain lighting and the camera is not picking it up. Thanks in advance.

Re: Gauge Cluster Spots

That is not glass. It is plastic that tends to scratch easily. Since it was certified, I would bring it to the dealer and let them either fix or replace.

Re: Gauge Cluster Spots

Thanks. I thought it might be plastic, but was not sure. It is not scratches but rather little bubbles or spots. I'm guessing it got sprayed with something it was not supposed to get sprayed with, or it is defective and is blistering.

Does anyone know if there are any guidelines for cleaning that plastic? Are there things you are/are not supposed to use on it?

Re: Gauge Cluster Spots

My '14 has a 100% crystal clear lens. See if its something that can be covered under warranty, if not a new lens can probably be purchased through an online mopar parts store for reasonable price and would be easy to swap yourself.

Thanks. This is really what I was looking for. Basically is this normal or not. Now that I know it isn't I'll look into a replacement. Whether warrantied or not.

Re: Gauge Cluster Spots

I don't recall seeing any other complaints about this on many WK and WD forums.. I think the idea that it got sprayed with something is probably correct..

I don't know if the lens is available as a service part.. it might mean a new cluster..

No cleaners. You shouldn't need or use anything more than a damp soft cloth followed by a dry soft cloth. That plastic has a tendency to scratch easily.

I clean things like this with a Swiffer duster that will not scratch. If it needs further cleaning, I try a brand new microfiber cloth. If that won't clean it, try a very small squirt of glass cleaner on the microfiber cloth as a last resort.
