Re: Getting "Vehicle phone requires service message"

So, the dealer replaced my radio today. I had to call sirius myself to transfer the account from the old radio to the new.

While the software version remains the same, something is different. If you press the assist button, three new menu icons appear side by side rather than a list. Was wondering if there some change somewhere or was it that my old radio never worked right.

It remains to be seen if this solves the see dealer message.

Re: Getting "Vehicle phone requires service message"

Have been getting this message for about couple months on and off. It became permanent 10 days ago. Along with the phone message, the GPS was putting me a 100 miles away from where I was.

Took it to the dealership. When they tried updating the firmware, the screen went black and froze. They opened a STAR case with Chrysler and was then notified that my radio serial number was part of a group and radios that may have this problem and that it should be replaced.

The dealership ordered a new radio and pulled all my UConnect / SiriusXM info off the old unit. I'm assuming they'll do the transfer of services when the new unit comes in this week.

Re: Getting "Vehicle phone requires service message"

Hi, I've been reading this thread and just had a few questions. I have an August build, with second to last update of uconnect. I got an occasional phone error message late last year, and then nothing for a few months after the November update. Then this past week I got the phone requires service error message and my GPS shows my location about 50 miles away from my physical location.

Are the GPS and phone error likely to be related?

I've been planning to go in for the "hot cabin" fix soon, so I guess I'll see what the dealer says.

Yes likely related, may be an antenna issue and not the radio in that case.

Re: Getting "Vehicle phone requires service message"

I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cheroke Summit. I have had the vehicle for a year. Two weeks ago, I began getting the Vehicle Phone Needs Service error message along with Driver Seat Belt not buckled (when it is actually buckled) and Air Bag needs Service error. The continuous "dinging" from the airbag and seat belt messages is very distracting!!

I took it to the dealer Monday and they said they downloaded the latest software to repair it but they did not guarantee it would really work. Wednesday the message reappeared. Today I have a call in to them to request the radio to be replaced based on the threads I have read here.

Glad to have this resource for research!!

My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland had the same three messages yesterday.

Re: Getting "Vehicle phone requires service message"

As of today, the dealership advised they have ordered a new "module" for the airbag, acc (cruise control), seatbelt warning issues and a new "radio" for the vehicle phone service issue. They are trying to expedite the items, but the projected delivery time is weeks, not days!

Re: Getting "Vehicle phone requires service message"

Thanks to all for their insight. After trying the engineering menu and factory reset options, I am now in Texas and no longer have UConnect within my options. Looks like it is a new radio for me. I purchased my Grand Cherokee Overland 3 weeks ago, but hoped all of the bugs were worked out since the owner's wife was driving it. Hopefully this is the only issue since this is my first Jeep. Looking forward to the months to come!

BTW, I am in Maryland, so San Antonio is juuuuuuuussssst a bit outside.

I think that dealership owners are allowed to have several wives. Each one is allowed to drive a car for a few weeks and then it is sold. Can't tell you how many times I have heard this from a sales person.

The part about u connect disappearing sounds familiar. Before my radio was replaced apps would disappear and appear at random. U Connect actually cancelled my free trial by itself. I called uconnect and they extended my trial by one month. (Liked your Bob Uecker reference)

Re: Getting "Vehicle phone requires service message"

Well after 15 months of driving 22k miles I got the message tonight. I updated to 14.05.03 a couple weeks ago. I'll keep an eye out for the message again and possibly try reloading the software again before going to the dealer and being told "could not replicate the problem", here's a car wash, have a nice day.

I will bring my Jeep on Monday for the same issues. All of them appeared at exactly THE SAME TIME - service airbag, constant seatbelt chime and ACC/FCW issue plus got the vehicle phone requires service. I think it is somehow related. The car constantly chimes and seatbelt and airbag is lit along with the red light next to 911 button. It is undrivable as it constantly chimes and warns me that airbags are off.

I do hope that this is an easy fix and they will get the parts right away. I have family vacation coming up this week and there is NO FREAKING WAY that I'm paying for rental car while paying off my car loan (which only has barely 10K miles) at the same time. Ridiculous!
