Re: Getting "Vehicle phone requires service message"

My wife's 2014 GC started getting this message right after I upgraded the uconnect software to the latest version out in June. In two weeks, the message has popped up three times. I guess a new radio is needed.

What version do you have it updated to? Also, give it a little bit of time before making the appointment to have dealer look at. People have been known to get this and then it go away about a week later.

Im pretty sure that if you have updated, and still receive the message, then you need to have it replaced. The updates were supposed to fix this.

Re: Getting "Vehicle phone requires service message"

Radio replacement is not a guarantee. I have all updates and a new radio but still get the message. My next step is to push at checking the antenna connection or replacing the antenna.

This issue has been with my GC since delivery in Nov 2013. It does not appear to affect anything else, but is a very obvious nuisance.

It took about 3 weeks before my error message returned. After 12 weeks, it is fairly regular now.

Good luck, I hope yours holds.

Re: Getting "Vehicle phone requires service message"

I have had the same issue with my 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland since I bought it. It's 11 months old and I have taken it to 2 different Jeep dealers with no success. The dealer I purchased it from replaced the radio/nav unit after 2 months and it seemed to fix the problem. However, 2 days ago I had the error return. The second dealer performed a software upgrade on 10/17/14 but the message appeared 4 times on 10/19/14. Needless to say, I will be calling the second dealership on Monday.

Re: Getting "Vehicle phone requires service message"

Mine was finally fixed when they replaced the wiring. They finally figured out that simply changing the radio wasn't working (after 4 times).

Re: Getting "Vehicle phone requires service message"

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit.

I have had this same issue off and on again. Software updates did not fix it. Then it finally became very regular. They replaced the radio and it stopped. However now it has come back off and on again. Sounds like the wiring in the next issue.

But I am done. This will be the fifth trip for this issue. I am going for the lemon law. And this is just the surface of the issues I have had.

- Three trips for fix a coolant leak.
- Both front fender wheel well trim pieces are coming off.
- Parking brake that will not hold on a hill.
- Auto comfort setting when you start that will not turn on the heated seats.
- Traction control shut off for no reason. And mine is not one of the vehicles recalled for this issue.
- Center stack needed to be replaced because it was missing buttons.
- Two different recalls. 1 for the sun visors. 2. for the airbags that can disable due to a short.
- Numerous bugs in the Uconnect system.

Don't get me wrong, I would really love my Jeep if it were not for all the quality issues I am having. For the cost of these SUV's you should not be having these kind of issues.

Re: Getting "Vehicle phone requires service message"

I had that message appear as part of a whole blitz of error messages. Ultimate the ORC module was replaced and all of the error messages have been gone...including the phone message....
Just today I received a recall which addresses the defective ORC modules....if you haven't received it you should call your dealer to have it done....it may solve the problem....

Re: Getting "Vehicle phone requires service message"

I have been getting the "vehicle phone" message for months. Upgraded the software to 14.25.05, still get the message. Today, the dealer said they're ordering a new radio......................

Re: Getting "Vehicle phone requires service message"

I had this issue soon after i got my truck last June and after the uconnect update 14.25.05 i never got it again.

Honestly do not believe there is anything wrong with the radio. There is also another thread on this topic with more info i believe. I would search and double check before going in to waste valuable time at the dealer. Just my .02.
