I have a one month old 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland. Starting two days ago, I get "Vehicle phone requires service. Please contact your dealer" when I start the car. Has anyone else got this message? Is there a quick fix? Thank you.

good to here since mine it at dealership for recall and bowed lift gate along with this and other things. On new update did it fix the issue I was also having where it wouldn't save my rear fade on radio, iPod, or bluetooth. Every time I would start jeep it was back to center.

me 2, had the update done a couple of weeks ago and haven't seen the dreaded "phone service" message since. Plus it gave me all of the internet radio apps(which I won't use). With, AM/FM/SIRUIS/IPOD AND SD CARD, well that's all I need and besides don't think the internet radio apps will work with my HTC ONE android--ce

Update 13.48.3 fixed the issue for me! I have 12,300 miles since new, almost since day #1 the warning could come on now and again, but it would somehow sort itself out after a couple of days. Ten days ago I took it to the dealer for the instrument cluster recall ... afterwards the screen warning came on at every start, plus the red light was on all the time. I was resigned to living with it, except that red light is bright at night! Thanks for the link ... I carefully followed the instructions and upgraded from 13.38 to 13.48 ... now all is well with the world :)

Just my two cents.
Called U Connect service from my 2014 Limited today Was able to connect even though red service light was on. Rep had me do a few things but couldn't finish the process because things that I needed to touch kept appearing and disappearing from my screen.

Service rep did mention that while my software was not the latest it was high enough not to have this happen. He said the radio might need replacing and I should go to the dealer. I said the dealer will probably tell me they have never heard of this problem. U connect has my call documented and said if necessary have the dealer call them. They provided me with a number. I also have a picture on my cell phone of the screen that says see dealer for service. I hate that screen

Called the dealer today and they said bring it in Friday because they deal with u connect problems on Fridays.

Haven't had any of the other problems mentioned in the forums and I really do like this vehicle. It has been great in the weekly snow storms we've had in New York this winter.

My attitude is that how could they put such a crappy product in such a nice car. I really don't like the radio or its controls. I hate that the mute is not permanent. Have to turn the volume to Zero to keep the volume off. On my Benz the mute is active until you deactivate it.

I will try to post the outcome of my visit to the dealer.

Took my car to the dealer today. They updated the software. It now reads 13.48.3. Some things I have noticed. I now have the Pandora, Slacker, AHA, and one other app I did not have before. The signal strength on the bluetooth app now reads maximum in strong signal areas Never had more than 3 bars. App signal strength bars are higher as well.

Maybe its in my mind but my perception is everything seems to be working better. Whether the service light reappears I'll have to wait and see. Keeping my fingers crossed but it's hard to drive that way.

Adding my experience... Vehicle had 13.19 when I got it, after several months this message popped up one day and eventually would pop up just about every day.

Took it to the dealer, they installed 13.38 which didn't make a difference but found an issue with the antenna connections. This fixed the issue for about 3 weeks before it started showing up intermittently again before eventually returning to every day at some point. I installed 13.48 this weekend and haven't seen it since.

At this point I sort of expect it'll reappear after a couple of weeks, although it seems others have had increased success with 13.48 so I am optimistic. I'll keep everyone updated.

Honestly, I really don't care about this functionality so if the message does come back but will stop appearing when my trial period is up in July I'll just let it ride.

I finally got around to updating to 13.48, and I continue to get the phone service error screen. Mine has been giving me this at every startup sine it was delivered on 11-8-13. The upgrade did seem to improve several other radio functions, the most noticeable was the SD card. The shuffle works better on the entire database, but I still have to select shuffle at each startup.

Upgraded to 14.05.03- within a minute, I got the vehicle phone requires service. I'll give it another week, but I believe a new radio head is in my near future. Nothing has stopped this persistent error message.

I didn't get the message at all until I updated to 13.38. It only happens once maybe every other time that I drive, and never right after I start the car. It's quite intermittent. Upgraded UConnect 2 other times (even to the latest 14.x.x) and it's still happening. I seriously don't think it's the head unit, I think there is a signal loss issue that they need to fix. I've seen plenty of threads where people are getting new head units and it's not making a difference, or for some it does... some people the software update works, some it doesn't. That sounds suspiciously like a software/signal issue to me. It's pretty crazy.

Someone much much earlier in the thread said "unregistering" from UConnect fixed the issue. There's no way I am going to pay 20 bucks for the crappy apps in this car anyway, so does anyone know what they meant and how to do it? I would love to see if that makes a difference or not.

Finally, I have been rid of the phone requires service message. I received a new head unit. None of the radio upgrades made a difference. The new head unit was upgraded to 14.05.03. All is well.

just became a member of the "Vehicle phone requires service message" club. Never had a problem with 6500 miles on my SFU. Since 3 days ago, radio is consistently showing the message on startup. It disappears after about 20 seconds and vehicle 3G data is working fine afterwards. Taking her to the dealer next week

2014 Limited

I've had the dreaded message appear and disappear randomly after about three months. The car has been to the dealer twice. The software has been upgraded to the current version.

I have registered and unregistered and registered again for uconnect. Yesterday my radio decided on its own to unregister from uconnect and reboot. Lost all of the apps and couldn't even find the app store. Called uconnect last night and was told that I am not unregistered. They even extended my free trial by one month. This morning all the apps reappeared. I'm thinking they did something at their end. On top of all this my Sirius subscription decided to delete itself. A brief call reinstated it. All my presets were there.

My dealer has a new radio waiting for me and will be installed next Tuesday. After following the posts I don't know what to expect any more.

So, the dealer replaced my radio today. I had to call sirius myself to transfer the account from the old radio to the new.

While the software version remains the same, something is different. If you press the assist button, three new menu icons appear side by side rather than a list. Was wondering if there some change somewhere or was it that my old radio never worked right.

It remains to be seen if this solves the see dealer message.
